Should the US Allow China to Purchase UNOCAL?

Any way you slice it, China is an enemy to the United States. They are currently beefing up their military readiness in preparation to go to war with the United States! This did not just begin. The Chicoms have been working toward this end for decades now. They KNOW there will be a war and they intend to win it!

Look, they already have missiles targeted on our west coast cities. They are in competition, with us, for space in orbit, around the earth, for their military satellites. They are actively planning on a “moon base” from which to launch missiles at any spot on earth.

Back here on earth, they have control of both ends of the Panama Canal, which former President Jimmy Carter made accessible when he gave the Canal to Panama. (Panama NEVER owned that Canal! We took it from Columbia!)

China’s military is a monster. The last time we openly fought them it was a draw. That was, of course, in Korea in the early ‘50’s. There has never been a peace treaty signed officially ending that war. All we have, on paper, is a “Cease Fire”.

Now, we are going to allow our enemy to control a part of our oil supply… and refining? Say what? Surely we can’t even be considering this!

But we are!

The Chicoms are representing themselves as a “Company” not the government. Yeah… right! Remember, China is a communist, socialist, country. They do not allow private enterprise. Except… as a front for their government.

You know, before the Second World War we sold scrap iron to Japan, which they threw back at us as bombs, and planes, and tanks, and bayonets, and sundry other weapons. Oh, we also cut off their oil supply! To this day, the “Blame America First” crowd claims that was the reason Japan attacked the US in the first place. We had it coming for cutting off Japan’s oil supply!

So, here we go again. We are about to make a stupid, no, a MAJOR, stupid mistake.

Sometimes I wonder why Providence allows this country to continue to exist!

Back in “THE DAY” the Soviet Union boasted that America was so dumb we would provide them the rope they’d use to hang us. But, along came a great American, named Ronald Reagan, and tossed that prediction out on it’s ear and saved this country… yet again.

The thing is… we can’t count on there always being an American President with the cajones to stand up to our enemies, of which, China is one of the worst.

It’s time for the US government to intervene and stop this sale of Unocal to China. Anything else is just plain stupid!

US Flag Amendment

The Flag Amendment has passed the US House AGAIN and will now go to the Senate where it faces it’s best chance for passage… ever. If the Senate should pass it, it will go to the states for ratification. It will require 39 states to ratify it. Predictions are that it will be the fastest ratification of an amendment to the US Constitution in history. All 50 states have passed resolutions supporting the Flag Amendment. In other words, if, and that is a big if, it gets through the Senate, it is a done deal.

The complaint against it, most often heard, is that burning a US Flag, in protest, is "protected free speech". Yeah, right!

The proposed amendment reads thusly: "The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States." That’s it! Once it is passed... then, the Congress will have to rule on the wording of a new statutory law to protect the flag. The US Supreme Court, in 1990, made this clear. First comes the amendment and then the statute.

Time and time again polls have shown that nearly 80% of Americans approve of, and support, this amendment. They want their flag protected! A few on the left, and a few misguided individuals on the right, are standing in the way.

The vote in the US Senate is expected to be so close this year, that there is a chance the amendment could pass, or fail, by one vote. This is the shortcoming of a representative democracy… when the representatives refuse to represent their constituents. But that is why we have elections. It will be remembered how the Senators vote on this bill.

For a hundred years, until the Supreme Court threw it out, the law protected the flag. No longer. As of 1990, the Supreme Court ruling changed that. Now we must change it back.

Contact your Senators and demand that they vote in support of the US Flag Amendment. Do so right away.

How often has Old Glory protected us? Now, she is in need of our protection. Let’s do the right thing!

The Supremes Have Done it Again!

So you thought if you worked hard, bought a piece of land and built your dream house on it, and settled in to raise a family and then enjoy the Golden Years of retirement all in YOUR House… On YOUR Land…. you were entitled to do that, and you were protected by the law. You actually BELIEVED THAT? HA!

Look, citizens of this country own NOTHING. Everything belongs to the government. If you don’t believe this… try withholding your taxes for a few years and see how fast your home, your car, your payroll checks, your pension checks, and yes, your Social Security checks, will be taken by the Government.

Now, the Supreme Court of the United States says: sure, a city can take the land you own, the home you built, paid for, and are living in…. and it’s legal. Now, A jury will decide how much you are paid for the property the municipality is taking. Before this ruling it was “Fair Market Value”. No longer. Now a Jury can decide how much you will be offered.

Take a look at the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution:

FIFTH AMENDMENT [U.S. Constitution] - 'No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb, nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.'

The ruling was a 5 to 4 decision. It set the entire bank of Liberal justices, who voted for the ruling, against the Conservative justices, who voted against the ruling. The Conservative justices are: Rehnquist, Thomas, Scalia, and O’Connor.

Many of us have been decrying, for some time now, the powers the Supreme Court has assumed. Powers it does not constitutionally have. The run away decisions, made recently, seem to indicate they are on some sort of “Power Trip”.

We have been saying for sometime now that Congress needs to rein in the Court. Congress has the power under the Article three of the US Constitution. They should use it.

Some reforms are desperately needed at the Supreme Court. For starters… no lifetime appointments. Allow each Justice to serve no more than 12 years. Then have each decision of the Court reviewed by the US Congress.

In the meantime, concerned citizens of the US should push the Democrats in the Senate to approve the President’s conservative choices for the court.

The Supreme Court of the US is in “Run Away” mode. It is time to bring some common sense and reason back to the Court.

The expectation is that very shortly, possibly within days, at least one Justice, possibly two, will announce their retirement from the Court. President Bush will send up to the Senate names of Conservative nominees. The Democrats will fight those Conservative nominees with their last breath. The Republicans, in the US Senate, must be prepared to use whatever legal means necessary to see that the Presidents choices for the bench of the Supreme Court are approved and control of the Court returned to the people of this country.

Bolton, Durbin, and the Sedition Act

Bolton, Durbin, and the Sedition Act.

The Republicans, in the US Senate, fell 6 votes short of winning a cloture vote Monday night (June 20th, 2005) and bringing the President’s nominee for ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, to a vote of the full Senate.

It’s time to stop playing “footsie” with the Senate Democrats.

We urge President Bush to make a “recess appointment” of Mr. Bolton, to the ambassadorship, during the Senate’s upcoming July 4th recess. He can legally do this. Mr. Bolton then WOULD BE the UN Ambassador until January 2007 … WITHOUT Senate approval. By that time we will have had another election and more Republicans elected to the Senate and we can run his name back through the Senate for approval at that time.

And another thing: Censure Senator Durbin. Do so ASAP! An apology is no longer acceptable. Nothing Senator Durbin can say can undo the damage he has done. If he should, by some quirk of nature, feel a twinge of regret, he should resign from the Senate immediately. There is no place in the US Senate for anyone who equates American service men, and women, with the Nazis. No place at all.

And finally, bring back the “Sedition Act”. It was repealed in 1921 because nobody in the US thought it would ever be necessary again. However, the loyalty of Americans to their country is not what it was in those early, innocent, days. Entirely too much harm is being done by loose cannons, in our government, and in our Mainstream Media, to allow it to go unchecked. The Sedition Act would put a serious crimp in the activities of those who wish America less than good fortune.

It is time to start playing “hardball” with the enemies of America.

Re-enact The Sedition Act

Re-enact The Sedition Act

With all the moaning and complaining about the war, coming from the Left side of the political spectrum, and a few lonely voices on the Right, and considering the damage all this is doing the war effort and , too, considering that all this anti-war, anti-Bush, rhetoric is, at some level, giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the US…isn’t it about time we re-enacted The Sedition Act?

I understand that many today have never heard of The Sedition Act, but the US found it useful during the First World War. (It was repealed in 1921.)

Now, when one backs away, a bit, so as to get a look at the broader picture of the attempts by the MSN, and the politicos on the Left side of the political spectrum, in this country, and then read the old Sedition Act, one begins to see the damage so many of us fear is being done to the US by those continually nipping at the ankles of the US Military as it tries to do it’s job.

I have managed to get a copy of the wording of the Sedition act and here it is. You will find it interesting reading and it might help you understand why some of us are so worried about the loud mouth complainers and moaners and whiners of the US today. Read it. And think seriously about what it says and think about those today who would be easily convicted under the terms of this Act:

Text of the Sedition Act:

SECTION 3. Whoever, when the United States is at war, shall willfully make or convey false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States, or to promote the success of its enemies, or shall willfully make or convey false reports, or false statements, ...or incite insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty, in the military or naval forces of the United States, or shall willfully obstruct ...the recruiting or enlistment service of the United States, or ...shall willfully utter, print, write, or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the form of government of the United States, or the Constitution of the United States, or the military or naval forces of the United States ...or shall willfully display the flag of any foreign enemy, or shall willfully ...urge, incite, or advocate any curtailment of production ...or advocate, teach, defend, or suggest the doing of any of the acts or things in this section enumerated and whoever shall by word or act support or favor the cause of any country with which the United States is at war or by word or act oppose the cause of the United States therein, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than 20 years, or both....

United States, Statutes at Large, Washington, D.C., 1918, Vol. XL, p. 553 and following.

The above is just a portion of the amendment to Section 3 of the Espionage Act of June 15th, 1917. The Act was repealed in 1921.

As I listened to the diatribes from the floor of the US Senate Chamber last week, I began to wonder if it wasn’t, indeed, time to drag out the “Sedition Act” and dust it off and re-enact it as The Sedition Act of 2005.

Something to think about as we listen, and read, the scurrilous attacks on our military, and this country, while they/we are at war.

Cutting US Dues to the UN !

Cutting US Dues to the UN

Well, finally, the US House passed a bill, a few days ago, aimed at beginning the clean up of the UN. Or else. Or else... we will cut our funding in half. The US supports the UN to the tune of somewhere between 22% and 26% of their operating budget, annually, depending on who you ask.

The UN has become rotten to the core. Even with all the evidence of corruption, there are many in the US Congress who support the UN just as it is. Many of them are in the US Senate. That is where this bill will run into trouble.

Heck, the Senate can’t even allow themselves to vote on the President’s choice for Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton. Does anyone really think they’re going to pass this bill? No way!

The “One World Government” crowd is well entrenched in the Senate. They’re not about to let go of their dream for the US, and it’s constitution, to come under, and become secondary to, the rule of the UN. Ridiculous you say? Not so, say I. Who do you think is sitting on the Bolton nomination?

This bill is long overdue. But, frankly, I do not believe it has any chance of clearing the Senate... and if it does, the President will veto it. So, it is, for all intents and purposes, dead right now.

Our suggestion continues to be that the United States pull out, completely, from the UN. I don’t like my country associated with such a corrupt organization. It’s embarrassing. We also suggest the UN move it’s headquarters to, oh, say, Paris. Heck, the French deserve to have that bunch of incorrigible reprobates on their soil for a few decades. The UN would feel right at home... and I doubt the French would even notice their presence.

There comes a time in the course of every failing project to cut your losses and get out. That time has long since come, and gone, for the US to get out of the UN.

The bill from the US House is woefully inadequate, anyway. It puts off the "dues cutting" until way down the road... some three years from now. Why not cut the dues now, and get their attention? But, as I said, this is a moot point, as the bill will not survive the Senate.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I still urge the US to get out of the UN and get the UN out of the US.

Freedom Fries, the Congressman, and Fleeing the Battlefield!

Freedom Fries, the Congressman, and Fleeing the Battlefield.

For the life of me, I cannot understand what has happened to Congressman Walter Jones of North Carolina. Where in the world did he get the idea that to win a war you tell the enemy when you’re going to quit?

Congressman Jones is WAY out of touch with his constituents, here in North Carolina, most of whom are flabbergasted at his comments. The good Congressman may get to retire in ’06. Then the people of his Congressional District will get to send someone to DC to represent THEM.

Look, folks, you can take any “good ole boy” from North Carolina, and ask him, and he will tell you that you quit the game… when the game is over! You do not cut and run. That is not the way of the Southerner. It is a slap in the face to even suggest surrender, or anything approaching it. But, the good Congressman seems to have fallen into the trap laid by his liberal friends. I’d certainly like to think that is what happened. I sure don’t want to believe that Congressman Jones has come to this conclusion on his own. If he did, I would expect the constituents in his district will be calling for his resignation very soon now.

To state the obvious, (well, maybe it’s not so obvious, at least to Congressman Jones!) If you tell your adversary when you intend to leave the battlefield, he will simply lie low, conserve his manpower and material, and wait until you leave. Then he will begin, anew, his effort to take the battlefield for his own, and since you will not be there, he will succeed. It is just that simple. Any commander of troops knows this. It is elementary. Combat 101.

Congressman Jones has made a serious error. We call upon the Congressman to reconsider his conclusion on announcing a date for withdrawing US troops from Iraq, … or consider tendering his resignation.

In the meantime, the North Carolina Republican Party should be looking for a replacement for the Congressman in ’06. Already the North Carolina Democrats are rubbing their hands in glee, preparing to offer a Conservative Democrat (Oh yes, there are such animals! We have one here in my Congressional District of NC.) for Mr. Jones’ position. And frankly, right now, the Democrat has every chance of winning.

Senator Durbin Must Apologize and RESIGN

Senator Durbin Must Apologize!

Where does Senator Dick Durbin, of Illinois, get off calling our men and women, the cream of American society, Nazis?

The bitter, bitter, bile of hate the Democrats have for President Bush, and their burning desire to bring America down, is driving them to say, and do, things that are an embarrassment to America. But worse, they are actually aiding our enemies.

Senator Durbin knows America’s troops are nothing like the Nazis! Yet he said so, on the floor of the Senate. And he refuses to apologize.

How dare he say such a thing! How dare he? It’s raw, bitter, grinding, hate. That’s how… and that’s why. Blinded by their loss of power in the US government, they’d rather destroy the country than see another political party run it. That is pathological hatred, Dear Reader. It’s sick! It is eating way, like a cancer, at the soul of the Democrat Party. Like trapped animals they are lashing out, in all directions, in an attempt to cause harm and bring down the greatest nation on the face of the earth.

If they could see themselves through the eyes of others they would know how infantile their tantrums appear to the adults in this country.

Day after day the Democrats continue to astonish the remainder of America with their “Destroy America” policy. Like children, if they can’t run the ballgame, they’ll not only take their bat and ball and go home, but they will smash the bat and destroy the ball so no one else can play ball either.

America’s enemies are surely taking comfort from the antics of the Democrats. They know that if they simply lay low, the Democrat Party will do their work for them. And it is working.

How much further are we Americans going to allow them to go before we began calling for an accounting? Skirting the very edge of treason is a dangerous game to play. One slip, and the unthinkable will have happened.

Arab TV has the Senator’s words spread across their broadcast spectrum. The words of our own government representative being used by the enemies of this nation to improve the morale of their insurgents and their bosses hiding in the caves of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran.

If this is not “aid and comfort to the enemy”, I don’t know what is!

There must be an accounting for this.

Senator Durbin should resign immediately... after an apology to the US troops and to the American people. If he will not resign, the people of Illinois should drive him from office.

If the Democrat Party allows Senator Durbin to remain in the US Senate… well, we will then know, beyond any doubt, that Senator Durbin was only reflecting the feelings of the Democrat Party as a whole. Not that I doubt that…it is just stunning to hear someone so overcome with bitterness, and hatred, at his own country, that he would take to the floor of the US Senate to rip and tear at the fabric of freedom.

How long must the American people suffer at the hands of those who would hand her over to the enemies of freedom?

If the Democrat party has any love for America left, they will immediate discipline Senator Durbin. Or, if they refuse to discipline him, they should have the courage to publicly align themselves with him, and his words, and drop the façade of patriotism and be done with it.

How the mighty have fallen!

Another Useless Apology!

Another Useless Apology!

Well, I see the US Senate has apologized, this week, for all the lynching(s) in the US between 1882 and 1968. What’s next?

Don’t you just love the way the MSM reported this event? They went out of their way to explain how important this was, and they outdid themselves to bring you the history of “failed attempts” at apology legislation in the Congress in the past. They practically stumbled over themselves to point out it was Southern Conservatives who blocked the past proposals for apology legislation. What they didn’t tell you was: those Southern Conservatives were Democrats!

Can you say: “Biased reporting”?

This, Dear Reader, is why we do not trust the MSM. They are simply incapable of presenting the entire picture, all the facts of a story, to their consumers. They will use only the facts that serve their purpose.

Had I known the Senate was about to pass such legislation, I would have publicly disavowed it. It is unnecessary. It is far too late, and it only reopens old wounds and knocks the scabs off others. Plus, it opens the door for more such Politically Correct “feel good” legislation…. with more “unintended consequences”!

So what’s next? Good question, for there will be more apologies, and more demands for apologies… for slights real, or imagined. As the demands grow louder, and more ridiculous, the temperature in the “National Room” will rise until tempers flare and any good that may have been accomplished will be completely defeated. Then, we will have to deal with the damage caused by the Senate’s actions this week. Shame! Shame!

I suppose the next big apology will be for slavery in the US. Well, I’ll be darned if I will apologize! I had nothing to do with it, and I refused to be saddled with a blanket of guilt for something I had nothing to do with! I just want that to be clear! I feel NO NEED to apologize and therefore refuse to ACT like I am sorry for something for which I am wrongly accused! Never!

Again, this P.C. arrow will be aimed at the heart of Old Dixie. As a Dixican, I resent the heck out of that! Check your US History and you will find that SLAVERY WAS LEGAL IN THE ENTIRE US. It was constitutionally protected! It was “Northern Slavers” whose ships brought the slaves from Africa to this country. (And British Ships) It was Northern Slavers who sold the Africans, at auction, in the New England states. Some of the richest families of the Northern states can trace their family fortunes directly back to the slave trade. And finally, for the record, the very first anti-slavery laws, in the US, were passed in the SOUTH!

Reparations? To whom? There is hardly a human being alive, of any race, which cannot trace his/her ancestry back to slavery… somewhere on this earth. Absolutely no reparations! None! So far as I am concerned, it is not even open for discussion, period!

Isn’t it about time America stopped apologizing for being the greatest country in the history of this planet?! It is about time we begin making attempts to avoid the slimy snail trail of the Politically Correct crowd and stand on our feet as men, and women, unashamed, and unapologetic, for being who we are…. citizens of the greatest country on the face of the earth!

The US fights Iran in Iraq!

It is really Iranians we are fighting in Iraq

When is our government and out military going to level with us and just admit that we are at war with Iran? You see, the so-called "insurgents" in Iraq…. they’re Iranian for the most part. The other part is Syrian.

It's like this, Iran cannot have a democracy on their border. Freedom is an unacceptable threat to the Mullahs who hold the reins of power in Iran. So they send those hapless, clueless, religious zealots across the border to do battle with the infidels and eventually get themselves scrapped off the pavement by some GI with a dustpan and swish broom.

The Big Boys in Iran don’t care, though. Life is cheap to them. Whatever it takes to remain in power. And ... get an Atomic Bomb! Remember how they marched, wave, after wave, of Iranian kids across minefields toward Saddam’s Army and got those kids slaughtered? Remember?

The Islamic Bomb! It’s coming. And guess who gets the first one? If you guessed Israel… you’re right. The second one??? Surely you don’t even have to hazard a guess about the second one. Security Agencies are warning that Iran now has a fleet of ocean going vessels capable of bearing, and firing scud missles. Sneaking one of these "Scud Ships" close enough to our shores, while still lying outside our territorial waters, and lobbing one, or more, scud missles with atomic warheads, over the US, is certainly not outside the realm of possiblilty and is, most likely, very probable.

Let’s just drop the pretense and go public with the fact that the inevitable war with Iran has already begun.

As soon as the MSM learns of this, they will have a field day. But, right now, they are totally engrossed in embarrassing the US over “imagined mistreatment” of prisoners at Gitmo (as if that were possible!).

Iran has been warned, many times, that she will not be allowed to build the bomb. So when the air attacks begin, the mullahs should not be surprised. In the meantime, a ground war with Iran’s troops continues it’s daily grind in Iraq.

I ask you, shouldn’t we be running a body count of the enemy dead along side the body count of American dead, in Iraq, in our, oh, so liberal, newspapers? How many hundreds of thousands of the enemy have we managed to kill so far? I’d like to know.

Eventually, the secret war with Iran will be made public and then the howls of protest will begin. America’s "wimp factor" will be heard from. The anguished cry of the American “yellowbelly” will be heard throughout the land. The MSM will echo, and re-echo, their cries of lamentation. What a disgusting display of cowardice!

In any event, the war is on… and there’s no turning back until we have total victory. That will take many years. So fasten your seatbelts, and get ready for a bumpy ride. Now we are fighting in three countries, not two. The people of Iran are looking to us for assistance in gaining their freedom. Let’s not disappoint them.

The Cowering of America!

The Cowering of America!

As I listen to all the whining from the Left, and from the Right, about the terrible, terrible, way we are treating those poor terrorists who want to kill us, and our kids, it curdles my stomach!

I am now more convinced than ever that the longhaired clowns from the sixties who chanted: “peace, love, and pot”, are running the US government. I have long been convinced they are running the universities, colleges, and public schools in this country.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand how they can be so stupid! So, utterly, hopelessly, stupid! I guess all that “funny weed” screwed-up their brains! That has to be the answer. Stupidity of that magnitude is not natural. It has to be self-induced.

When we finally get a group of those rabid killers caged up, the “limp-wristed”, and “jelly-spined” among us begin to worry that we might treat them badly and they would, in turn, think badly of us. Like, they loved us before we captured their sorry behinds and tossed them in the can!

I swear… if the Mainstream Media, and the Political Left, of today, had been around during the Second World War, all of us on the east coast would be speaking German and the folks on the west coast would be speaking Japanese.

We have given birth to a generation of wimps!

Look, when some group of “religious nuts” publicly vows to kill you and makes a rather emphatic attempt at it, and in the process manages to kill, oh, say, 3000 of our citizens, I have to believe they are serious… and we are duty bound, as Americans, to hunt them down… and liquidate them by any, and all, means necessary. Eradicate as many as it takes to remove the threat to my family and yours.

Let God sort them out. We Americans are obligated to arrange a meeting… between them, and their God… as soon as possible!

If some manage to be taken alive, cage them for the rest of their natural lives. Give them food and water, and little else, until their respective deity calls them home!

I am not interested in treating them with kindness. Not in the least. The fact that they still have a pulse is straining my “compassion limits” as it is.

The MSM, the Political Left, and even some on the Political Right, have managed to make the US the laughing stock of the Middle East! They think we’re a bunch of pansies… and who can blame them. We sure as heck act like it!

All the moaning, and whining, about those poor fruitcakes in Gitmo, is sickening. Some of those guys are living better IN PRISON than they ever did before we grabbed their sorry behinds and tossed them in those cages.

So, if you feel really, really, bad about our treatment of the terrorists, just keep it to yourself. I don’t want to hear it. Your cowering posture and your groveling is making us all look bad. And, it is bordering on giving aid and comfort to the enemy!

We have 3000 dead, from the attack in New York, and another 1700 dead in Iraq, and you want to play “patty-cake” with those bloodthirsty killers???

I know the scriptures say:”Vengeance is mine, sayth the Lord.” That’s fine by me… as long as He hurries it up and lets me watch!

Mysterious Bomb Blasts in Iran Not All That Mysterious

Mysterious Bomb Blasts in Iran Not All That Mysterious

International news media reported five more “mysterious” bomb blasts in Iran over the weekend.

One can only wonder if it has begun.

Weeks ago, on this site, we warned this would happen as the Iranian people were stirred up by outside forces to rise up and throw off their theocratic rulers. This was not a difficult conclusion at which to arrive.

The people of Iran, yearning for freedom, and seeing the very forces to help them gain their freedom right next door… well, nature takes it’s course and things begin happening.

The mullahs have thumbed their noses at the free world for long enough. It is time for them to go, and go they will. The people of Iran are at the threshold of revolution. Only a tiny push is required… and they may be getting that push from western “interests”.

It is understood in all circles, outside of Iran, that Iran will not be allowed to build an atomic bomb. Numerous warnings have been issued. Yet the mullahs persist. Now, after repeated warnings, the “outside interests” are beginning to move.

A popular uprising among the Iranians would be the first step toward throwing off the yoke of the mullahs. It would appear that uprising is now in it's infancy.

As the frequency of the “Mysterious Bomb Blasts” increases over the next few weeks and months, we will see a grand drama played out on the world stage. The day of the theocracy in Iran has come… and, it has gone. The stage has been set, the players are in place, and the curtain is about to rise.

No Grand Invasion is in the offing. No, this will be a much more “personal” war. This will be a war between the Iranian people and their rulers. Or, so it will seem. Outside interests will be funneling arms, monetary assistance, and even the occasional “advisor” across the border to the principles of the “Uprising’.

Freedom is “catching”, it would seem, in the Middle East. Keep an eye on Iran for further developments.

The Last, Best, Hope of Man

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out...without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable”. --H. L. Mencken

I thought the quote above was a good way to open this blog. Whether you agree or disagree with what Mencken said, you must see that kernel of truth... not so slyly hidden in his prose.

We all complain about our government. It is our right as citizens of a democratic republic. But, too often, we forget the second part of the equation. That is responsibility. We have a responsibility to act in the way good citizens act. One of the most important responsibilities is to vote on Election Day.

Another responsibility is to speak out when you observe your government going astray. That is what we do here at “Insight”.

You and I will not agree all the time. That is as it should be. Few things are more divisive that government. It has always been so.

George Washington, the first President of the United States, said: “Government is not reason. Government is not eloquence. It is force. And, like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master”.

We will endeavor, on this blog, to criticize government... and... both political parties. However, the Democrat Party will be the recipient of most of my criticism, because, in my opinion, their ideology is falls the greatest distance from the America our forefathers dreamt of creating.

Of late, the Democrat Party has made an even harder left turn, toward Socialism, and those of us, on my side of the political spectrum, see their Socialist tendencies as dangerous to a free America. We cannot, in good conscious, stand by and allow the rot of Socialism to eat away the heart of the greatest nation on the face of the earth.

So, prepare yourself for the great clashes to come… clashes, which will be epic in their scope. For the struggle for this country is vast and deep. Men and women of conviction and courage fight it. And it will not easily be won, if, it is ever to be won.

I sometimes believe that is our mission. To continue to struggle in the hope that our struggle will produce a better America… an America ever changing to meet the demands of her people, and the world in which she exists. For America is the last, best, hope of mankind to live free.

To Forgo Sense and Reason

To forgo Sense and Reason:

I’m a member of that “White Christian Party” DNC Chairman, Howard Dean, referenced this week.

Bless him. He’s the best man we Republicans have working for us.

I’m also a member of the “vast right-wing conspiracy”. Oh no… we’ve not disbanded. We’ve been lying low and getting ready for Hillary. In the meantime, we’ll take all the help we can get from Dr. Dean. Believe me, has been very helpful and it would seem we may continue to count on his contributions to the decimation of the Democrat Party.

It would appear this raucous grinding together of the parties will continue into the future as far as the eye an see.

Author Michael Novak once said: “Our political institutions work remarkably well. They are designed to clang against each other. The noise is democracy at work.”
If that is indeed the case, then the American democracy is alive, and doing very well, thank you!

We’ve done it this way for well over 200 years. Today’s debates and posturing in the Congress is nothing new. The hallowed halls of the Capitol building have seen beatings and even shootings. Sometimes the atmosphere simply gets too hot and the pot boils over. Punches are thrown. I have thought that many times a well connected “Haymaker” could make a point much better than the hours of debate in which the antagonists were embroiled.

Democracy is not pretty. It can get downright “trying” sometimes. We are in the midst of one of those times right now.

The democrats, for some reason I cannot fathom, seem to think they can make points with the American electorate by insulting them and continually blasting their representatives to the legislature as nazis, idiots, and even worse. Not only is this infantile, it is annoying, especially here in the American South. In days of yore, many of the juvenile rantings, of the democrat leaders, would have lead to a challenge to dual. Frankly, I oftimes think dueling should be brought back.

For some inexplicable reason the DNC seems to think it can win a Presidential election without the South. They must. They continue to insult southerners, very nearly, on a daily basis.
I’m just curious. If, somehow, the democrats won a Presidential election, without the south, how would they govern? I’d refer them to a fellow by the name of Abraham Lincoln. He was elected without a single southern vote. History records how easy it was for him to govern. The wounds from that conflict have not healed 140 years later. Raw anger simmers just beneath the surface. Civility has held that dissent of fury in check. However, take away the civility, as the DNC is doing with Dr. Dean, and all bets are off.

I’d suggest to the DNC, and democrats in general, that they tone down the rhetoric. It is serving no purpose but to fan the flames of hatred. They have lighted a powder keg and some democrats have begun to realize it is the democrat party sitting astride that explosive keg with the ever shortening fuse.

At the risk of being helpful to the Democrat Party, I would suggest they get the hate speech under control; before they introduce Hillary into the mix. The mention of her name, south of the Mason-Dixon line, has the same effect as throwing gasoline on an already blazing fire.

I would leave you with this thought from Galileo: "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use."
I think he’s got something there!

The Curse of the Strong Central Government

The Curse of the Strong Central Government

A strong central government is a nightmare to freedom lovers everywhere, especially here in the United States. The Nightmare has become real, in the US, since President Abraham Lincoln tossed out the Constitution. We have never been able to recover the government our forefathers, the framers of the Constitution, intended.

The Founders and Framers foresaw a limited government subject to the States. Today it is exactly the opposite. Now the states are subject to the federal government. In other words the creation of the States… namely, the Federal Government, has become a “Frankenstein” of sorts. This was not what the founders and framers intended. Not by a long shot.

Look at the recent ruling by the Supreme Court that medical marijuana use is illegal… even though eleven states have passed laws saying it is legal, in their states, for a doctor to write a prescription for a patient to use marijuana to relieve his, or her pain, on any number of other ailments.

Friends, this is raw power. And it is dangerous… dangerous in the extreme.

One of the real shortcomings of this country is its inability to study its past history and learn from its former mistakes. Even our public schools teach so little history, I’m talking about American History now, that the graduates, those schools turn out, are virtually ignorant of their country, and the rights they are granted under the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. As a result, rulings similar to the one, recently, on medical marijuana, is easily passed by a Supreme Court which is obviously out of control and needs to be reined in by the Congress.

Problem is… the Congress is out of control, too. They are handing down laws, which curtail our constitutional freedoms because “the people” are clamoring for security. Sorry, folks, but I don’t hear that clamor! I believe it is imaginary. A figment of minds so used to power they will grasp every chance to expand their controlling reach into our society.

Can we stop it? Can we bring citizen control back to our government? Not in our lifetimes or that of our children. We cannot even begin until we stiffen the spines of the American people. That will not be easy. The Leftist Media is continually feeding their readers the idea that they, as citizens, are helpless and their only hope is in government. And that, Dear Reader, is exactly what got us into this mess in the first place!

Those of us who believe in the original Constitution must be able to reach the populace with this message of truth. Those who would oppose us with their dying breath control the conventional means of communications, in the US.

So, we have gone to the Internet. This week, the Internet has come under attack by the Federal Government. They seek to control our speech, out here, in cyber space. Their actions smack of fear. Raw fear of losing control. You see, if they don’t control us… we might speak the truth. Christ, Himself, said, “Ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free!” Therein lies the problem for our strong central government… the simple truth.

But we have to stand up like the sons and daughters of heroes that we are! Bound together by the common goal of Freedom, we can once again break the bonds of a strong central government and the power it has over our everyday lives. It may take decades. It may take a century, or two, but if we remain in the fight, we can win. But… that is the only way. It will take all of us, in the harness, pulling together to put our Republic back together again. Slackers need not apply.

Here’s something one of our founders and framers, John Adams, said:

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Mr. Adams sums it up nicely.

We must not tarry. The goal is much too important. Our liberty, our freedom regained. That smoldering ember, down deep in your soul, is calling to you to answer the growing thirst for freedom again.

In just over a year’s time, we have another national election in the US. This will be an opportunity to let your voice be heard loudly proclaiming that you want your birthright of freedom returned. Tell the government loudly and clearly that we chose liberty over security. We choose our freedom. As an American, it is our right!

Take No Prisoners!

Take No Prisoners!

There are around 550, or so, prisoners in the prison at Guantanamo Marine Base in Cuba.

They are enemy combatants. Many, if not most, are from Afghanistan. As Enemy combatants they are not covered under the Geneva conventions governing warfare. That is a fact, period!

Now, I am more than a little tired of the left wing organizations continually nipping at the heels of the American eagle. They cannot stand the fact that, in all likely hood, we will win this war on terror and remain the country that we are.

For America to remain a vital, free country gives the lie to all their protestations and finger pointing. Despite all their bellyaching and caterwauling, America continues to defy the Socialist Left and remains the leader of the free world. This they cannot stand. Thus, all their complaints, and all their continued demands, that the US bend to their will and give up its sovereignty and become another of the crumbling “has been” nations similar to so many of the European welfare states.

So, they use the fact that America is winning the war on terror against us. The claim loudly we are mistreating the prisoners we have at Gitmo and other prisons. Even some of our own Congressmen and Senators and even a past President has joined the chorus. It sure tells you a lot about their core beliefs, does it not?

I any event, maybe it is time we change our policy on prisoners. Maybe, since the world thinks we don’t know how to take care of, and provide for, prisoners, …maybe we should just stop taking prisoners at all. Establish a “take no prisoners” policy. Simply put, if we capture an enemy combatant, we shoot him on the spot! No prisoners… no complaints from the left! Problem solved!

Is that an audible gasp, I hear emanating from the far left? Doesn’t surprise me. Those are the folks who want us to mollycoddle our enemy. Look folks, the people in those poisons want to kill your children! And given half a chance they will. Honestly, if anything, we think they are being treated much nicer than they deserve.

Look, I’m not interested in winning hearts and minds! Never have been, on, or off the battlefield. But, I’m even less interested when the other party is shooting at me.

The “Hate America Crowd”, including those among our elitist politicians, wants nothing more than to bring America to her knees. They fear the fact that America is the strongest nation on the face of the earth. They had much rather have us at the level of, say, France. A nation, which is putrid with rot!

I’m not interested. Thank God, most Americans are not interested, either. We cherish our freedom and we will fight to preserve it.

So, America will continue to take her prisoners to Gitmo… or take no prisoners at all. Frankly, I can be happy with either.

Medical Marijuana...The Supreme Court is Wrong On This One!

Medical Marijuana. The Supreme Court was wrong on this one

Not only was the ruling by the Supreme Court wrong, this week, but if you look closely, (not too closely, it’s not necessary), you can see that the court has erred in its interpretation of the US Constitution.

Now, first off, if a doctor prescribes Marijuana, as a drug to be used to treat a medical condition, I see nothing wrong with that. I know people in the pharmaceutical business and they tell me the American public would be absolutely astounded if they were made aware just how many drugs are on the American Pharmaceutical market today with a marijuana base. (including cannabis and THC) So the practice of prescribing marijuana has been legal in this country for many decades. The only difference is…the continued ignorance of the America people.

Just so we’re clear, I support the medical use of marijuana, prescribed by a physician. You see, I have a chronic illness whuch I have had since birth. It requires, usually, multiple hospital visits per year. The pain is incredible when one of the attacks come. The first thing the doctors do is establish an IV line and the second thing is… they begin administering Morphine, IV push. Now, if you think for one minute I’m going to stay the doc’s hand and inquire if that medication contains “poppies” from which heroin is derived… you’re nuts! I want relief and I’ll take what I can get to find that relief. I have no reason to believe the patients in the states affected by the Court’s ruling yesterday will react any differently. They will continue to use marijuana, illegally, as far as the federal Government is concerned, even though they have the blessing of their state governments.

Now to the Supreme Court: They did it again. They overstepped their bounds. They used the Inter-State Commerce Clause of the US Constitution to decide against the states that have medical marijuana laws already, legally, on their books.

The Inter-state Commerce clause is meant to cover trade between states. In other words, growing marihuana in one state and transporting, or selling it to a buyer in another state, would be covered under the Inter-State Commerce clause. But, the users on medical marijuana are not dong that. Besides, This is a States-Rights issue! As long as that marijuana does not cross a state line, the Inter-State Commerce clause does not apply! Except, of course, when the Supreme Court says it does.

So, the Supreme Court has, again, infringed on State’s Rights by imposing their will on the states by using a clause in the US Constitution, wrongly. And, they’ll get away with it. Who can challenge them? Nobody!

It's interesting to note that eleven states are affected by this ruling from Vermont to California.

Where did our State’s Rights go? Well, we lost them at a little place called Appomattox Courthouse, in Virginia, in April of 1865. Now, all the states have begun to grasp the fact that the states of the Confederacy were not the only states to lose their State’s Rights as a result of the War Between the States. The strong Central Government was established as a result of the lost of the Confederacy in the War Between the States. We are STILL paying the price for that… even to this day! All Americans are paying the price as the Federal Government gobbles up,our rights one after the other. A strong central Government is a dangerous thing. 140 years ago, the South felt it's wrath and made a valient effort to stop it's growth. It has just begun to dawn on Americans that the entire counry lost, that day, at Appomatox Courthouse.

It is long past time to rein in the Supreme Court and make them answerable to the US Congress. I urge the Congress to pass legislation creating a Constitutional Amendment to make all decisions handed down by the Supreme Court subject to being overturned by the US Congress with a “super majority” vote of both houses. The Court must have limits placed on it.

While we’re at it, lets change the appointments to the court from lifetime appointments to say, no more than 12 years.

In the meantime, many of the states will defy the Supreme Court and continue allowing their physicians to write the prescriptions for medical marijuana. Of course the feds will try to stop them. Some will try, but they will be bulldozed by the power of the Federal Government. Remember Elian Gonzales, in Florida, a few years ago? That’s just one example of the heavy hand of the Federal Government.

This is not over. Not by a long shot!

Where is the Outrage?

Where is the cry of outrage from the American people over the Real ID Act? Where? I hear none. That is worrisome, indeed.

I think The Real ID Act is a rotten piece of legislation! It is an “unfunded mandate” forced upon the 50 states. Now those 50 states must come up with the money to implement it. Where do you suppose they will get the money? From you and I, that’s where. We have the honor of paying for this God-awful piece of legislation.

I hate the idea of a National ID card. Polls have shown I’m in the majority on that, they (The Congress) put this damnable piece of legislation together because they want you, and me, to carry a National ID Card… and they knew we wouldn’t, unless, they made it impossible for us to do otherwise…thus, National Driver’s license! (Don’t kid yourselves, that’s what it is… A National Driver’s License, issued by the state and paid for by you and me!)

Congress deliberately set it up so that if a state refuses to implement it, that state will lose a huge amount of federal dollars.

Dear Reader, I know many of you, and I, come from different points of the political compass, but I believe we join at the point where we do not want to see our freedoms taken away. Where, then, is the outpouring of rage, and anger, at the Federal Government for taking even more of our freedom?

Where is the concern? My Lord, we’re losing our country!

I think there is enough blame to burden both our political parties! I don’t know how much longer I can remain in the Republican Party.

In the past few days I have been made aware of the formation of a new political party. I am informed they have the “money people” with them and there will be a national press conference called toward the end of this year to announce its formation. I’m waiting, with baited breath, to learn more about it. If it is a conservative party, I will consider leaving the Republican Party.

I love freedom entirely too much to belong to a group, any group, which will take it away!

But, you know, the apathy of the American people is as much to blame, if not more so, than either the Democratic Party, or the Republican Party. Neither would have the power to push something like this thru if the people would rise up and scream “Hell, No”!

I fear for my country!

Your Papers, Please......

"Your Papers, Please……"

There is no way a free USA can continue to exist with the crowd we have in DC representing us!

No, they are not representing us! If they were, the Real ID Act would never have passed the Congress, nor been signed by the President.

Democrats and Republicans citizens alike, all across the landscape of America, are aghast at the loss of freedom as a result of this Real ID Act. The Constitution has just been shredded and discarded. It reminds me of the unconstitutional doings of the Lincoln administration in the 1860’s.

They, the Congress, knew they could never get us, the citizens of the US, to carry a National ID Card. So, they will force us to carry one, by creating a National Driver’s License. Freedom of movement has just been curtailed in the US. One of the most celebrated freedoms we had, we have no more, as a result of the Real ID Act.

The US Congress has just given a great victory to the terrorists! It is embarrassing to acknowledge that the representatives in Washington are more frightened of the terrorists than the American people are. It is equally astonishing that the Congress is more afraid of the terrorist than they are of the American people. What a bunch of wimps! What a bunch of testosterone challenged men … and women! They are an embarrassment to real Americans. (Did I say that already? Well, it bears saying again, anyway!)

Now, let’s see which states have the courage to buck Congress and not implement this National ID Card. No many, if any, I would guess. The Congress set it up to punish states for not enacting it, by causing them to lose massive amounts of federal dollars. Most state legislatures will run to sign on to this Congressional Blackmail... for that is want it is! Plain and simple. But, hey, a Congress bent on gutting the Constitution is surely not above Blackmail…now, are they!

Where have the real Americans gone? Cowering beneath rocks? Begging the mountains to fall on them to hide them from the terrorists?

How will Congress get away with it? In the name of national security, that’s how. America is giving away her freedom for security! Soon we will have neither, security, nor freedom!

The whole lot in Congress deserves to be thrown out on their collective ears! They have sold us out!

When will the American people rise up, in righteous anger, and cleanse the halls of Congress of those lap dog Congressmen and Senators? When? Have we forgotten who we are? We’re Americans… remember? Our ancestors fought and died that we would live free. Not secure, mind you, but FREE.

With the passage of this Real ID Act, we have witnessed the Death of Freedom in this country. And I don’t hear the sound of mourning from the people.

So this is how a free America dies, huh? With a whimper. A groveling whimper, at that.

How long, oh Lord? How Long?

Your Obedient Servant,

“Longstreet”

Freedom Is Not Free!

Freedom Is Not Free

A few days ago, I had the great good fortune to have the opportunity presented to me to speak to a congregation of Southern Baptists on Memorial Day weekend. It was their annual Memorial Day Service... held each year on the Sunday closest to Memorial Day Monday.

It was a modest sized congregation with a very good representation of the community. At one point the pastor asked that all veterans stand and announce their branch of service, years served, and anything they’d like to say about their service. That’s when the tears started.

Memories began to flood back into the minds of the veterans thru out the congregation. Ther were veterans of the Merchant Marine, the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force, the National Guard and all the Reserves. As men remembered the sacrifice of their best buddy, a brother, a father, or even their own sacrifice, hearts were pieced with pain and the emotions would not be held back.

It quickly became clear that the memories, so long buried, were just beneath the surface. The passion men and women felt for the veteran was real, deep, and precious. The price wars have cost this nation is real and lasting. The scars are deeply embedded, often, in our subconscious, but always there.

We’re a country of free people who know the cost of war. Yet, America will willing shed her blood and the treasure of her youth to secure freedom for oppressed peoples anywhere on earth.

Freedom is not free. As I sat listening to the other veterans tell of their sacrifices and the sacrifices of those from their families, the cost was brought home. The cost was high. Here, in this small farming community, in North Carolina, the pain was still there. And it will be there. As three young men rose and spoke of their service to their country in Gulf War One and now the current Iraq War and the war in Afghanistan. More pain. More memories to be spoken of on Memorial Days in the future.

The thing that keeps coming back to me is the old time worn expression: “War solves nothing!”

It is a lie. War does solve things.

We’re a free people today as a result of several wars. War put Hitler away. War stopped the massacre of the Jews. War stopped the Japanese march across the Pacific, enslaving people as they went. War maintained the freedom of the South Korean people by driving the North Korean army back across the 38th Parallel and stopped their allies the Red Chinese. The US still stands guard at that border to this day. War would have stopped the march of communism in Vietnam had the Mainstream Media, in this country, not whipped up anti war fever in this country and played right into the hands of the communists in Southeast Asia. The US troops did not lose that war; they were not allowed to win it. And the blame is laid right at the feet of the American Left and their "willing accomplices" in the Mainstream Media.

You see, as hard as it is to grasp, there are people, in this country, who feel that nothing is worth war. Those folks are free, and kept free, by better men than themselves. Men died to give them the freedom to protest the US involvement in wars of liberation all over the world. While they themselves refuse to understand that with out the freedom granted them by the US Soldier they would, this day, be living out their lives in slavery. They refuse to understand that freedom is not free. Somebody paid for it… and continues to pay for it. These are the people who would bow their heads, and bend their necks, to allow the chains of slavery to be fastened on them rather than risk their lives to live free. Pathetic!

War does solve things. But, it brings pain and sharp memories, which linger just below the surface in our hearts and minds.

Is freedom worth it? Of course it is! Man’s longing for freedom can never be quenched. This great experiment we call America was forged in war. The Revolutionary War and the War Between the States. War is a crucible. It will either make a nation, or break a nation. America is welded together from having been through that crucible.

Today we find ourselves, as Americans, caught up in another World War. For lack of a better name we call it the War on Terror. This is an open-ended war. No end is in sight; if ever there will be an end. You would be hard pressed to find the front lines. Today we are concentrated in the Middle East. That is the public war. The private war, or the war we don’t see, is all around the globe. Men, with Presidential pardons already secured, (We believe.) are hunting down the perpetrators of this war of terror and eliminating them, one at a time, in diverse places. For this is a war mostly fought in the shadows. It is a continuous search and destroy mission… search out the terrorists... and destroy them... wherever they are found.

Freedom is not free. It never has been. It never will be. America fights because she must. For America will be free! As President Kennedy said, “No matter the cost.” We have no choice. No choice, that is, if we hope to remain free.

Next up... The Impeachment of George W. Bush!

Next up… The Impeachment of George W. Bush!

No, I’m not kidding.

Conservatives are gearing up to ward off an attempt by the Democrats to impeach President George W. Bush.

On what grounds you may ask? Glad you asked.

They’ll take anything they can get. It appears they plan to throw a lot of things against the wall and see what, if anything, will stick. For example: The “illegal war in Iraq”. The “Torture” of prisoners, the “Stealing of two elections” (everybody knows the country would not have voted for that dumb ole Texan…so he must have stolen the elections, right?), the tsunami in Indonesia, the mudslides in California, and I’m sure they will find some other “mythical” reasons to begin impeachment proceedings against the President.

You see… it’s “anything” that will “tie-up” the Bush administration so as to insure little, if any, accomplishments during Bush’s eight years in office.

That’s the plan.

It does not matter that the Democrats haven’t the votes in Congress to carry out this scheme. The whole idea is simply to create as much trouble as they possibly can to distract the administration from actually doing its job. You see, if the President actually accomplishes something, anything, that will be far more than the Democrats did during their recent 8-year presidential administration and would look bad for the Democrats and put some kinks in their plans for the 2008 election… especially the primary between “Babs” Boxer and Hillary. (Did you ever see the movie: “The In-laws”? Well, watch this version. It will be hilarious!)

When the Congress gets back, from the current recess, there will be, approximately, 35 days in which to create trouble… before the August recess. It’s going to be a busy month!

There is a very good chance there will be a Supreme Court Justice retiring in June or July. Add that to the John Bolton fiasco and the Nuclear Option is not only back on the table… but will blow up! The GOP Senators, while home during this recess, have gotten their ears chewed off by angry constituents and… they are now fortified and ready to “drop the hammer”.

So, we head into the crazy days of summer in Washington, DC. The really Big Show is about to begin!

Fox News Channel... and the others.

Looks as though the cable network news channels have sorted themselves out and the winner, by far, is Fox News Channel. Sad to say, the others, are in various states of decline.

The three broadcast networks and the two lesser cable news networks have yet to grasp the simple truth that the country no longer trusts them. Their continued biased reporting, (overtly left-leaning) is a “turn-off" for most news viewers and that’s what they are doing: “turning them off”.

What is drawing such numbers to FNC? Simple, really. They actually make an attempt at balancing their news reporting. I understand that our liberal friends don’t see it that way, but, my opinion (as one who spent a large part of his life in the broadcasting business) is simply...the product of the broadcast networks, and the second and third cable news networks, is glaringly biased. What they feel is “balanced news" is actually "balanced" in favor of the "center left" view, rather than the true political center. They are extremely wide of the mark. Don’t take my word for it, look at the numbers. Viewers are voting with their remotes.

I’m a “news junkie”. I have this insatiable desire to “know”. As a result, I watch many hours of news a day, plus the Internet, and print media. I long ago switched to Fox News Channel as my ONLY TV news source. I haven’t even had CNN or MSNBC turned on in months! By watching FNC I can relax and listen to what is said, rather than constantly having to read between the lines, on the other newscasts, and filter out the leftist gibberish from the so-called “news reporting”. It really
is bad.

Anyhow, that is where their viewers went... to the same network I went to… and for the same reason. I do not believe they can re-invent themselves sufficiently enough to re-capture the viewers they have lost. Nothing short of a sell-out to another news organization will make any difference. A good house cleaning, and new owners, might give them a shot at claiming a respectable showing in the ratings. Without it, they have no chance of ever recovering.

Now, I hasten to add… this is only my opinion, and I have been known to be wrong before. But it sure doesn’t look good for the future of the other news networks.

In the meantime, I will stay with FNC, and the Internet, and a few foreign newspapers.

The Future of the US?

It has been interesting to an old broadcaster, for the past couple of days, to watch the MSM face the fact that it no longer has the hold on Americans that it did in the '60’s and '70’s. That’s gone. Some of their reporting, in the past few days, about their glory days of "Watergate and Deep Throat", was almost "pathetically nostalgic" for the "good old days"... when they actually wielded some power.

A corner has been turned in our culture. The dissemination of news no longer is the bailiwick of the huge monolithic giants of the press. Now... it is just as likely to come from some guy in his shorts and t-shirt with a cup of coffee and a cigarette, banging on his computer keyboard at 4 in the morning, as it is to come from some worldwide Press Conglomerates or, even cable news.. (That was not an attempt to link me with newsmakers. I don’t report it…I just comment on it. Big difference.)

I think the bigger news, mostly overlooked yesterday, was that the Dutch turned down the proposed EU constitution. Coming hot on the heels of the French defeat of the constitution in their country as well, this pretty much puts the cap on the European Union, at least for our lifetimes I can’t say that I’m surprised. Actually, I expected it.

I was thinking about those European events and I came to the conclusion that... if the 50 states of the US were asked to join themselves together… today, under the current constitution, at least half the states would not sign on. The commonality the states once had is gone.

New England would be the first to pull out. They’ve been trying to secede since 1843, anyway. Texas would not sign, a number of the western states, Wyoming among them, would not sign on. The Deep South states would not sign on. The two Carolinas would be toss-ups. Virginia…50/50. Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, to name some more, most likely would not sign on. I except Arizona would not sign…over border issues… and California would split with the northern part signing on and the southern part splitting away. Washington and Oregon would sign; Montana and Idaho would not sign. The Dakotas really don’t matter; 'cause nobody lives there, especially in North Dakota, anyway, but chances are they pull out and cast their lot with Canada. Minnesota would sign, or seek annexation by Canada. Hawaii would not sign. Alaska is a toss-up. The Great Lakes states would sign. New York might fool everybody and NOT sign. (New York has also sought seccession before.) Pennsylvania would sign. Florida would sign. I think the New England states would seek annexation by Canada. The Deep South states would immediately form a “confederation” again. Texas would not join the confederation choosing to go it’s own way as the republic it was early in it's history. (That way it could control it’s southern borders.) As soon as the Mid Atlantic States (Virginia and the Carolinas realize the US will no longer have the money to support them, I believe they would seek annexation... by the confederation. The Plains States, in the middle of the continent, would go their own way. As the breadbasket, they could write their own ticket. Oh, Louisiana would sign. The "territories" would seek Independence... with the possible exception of Puerto Rico. It is basically a welfare state wholly owned, and wholly supported, by US Tax Dollars. They are not about to let go of the cash cow. However, when they realize the money will be cut off, there’ll be a revolution and a Socialist dictatorship will wind up ruling that island nation.

Of course, I have no more insight than the next guy, but basing my prognostications on what little I know of the history of the states and. taking into account the balkanization in the country today, I believe the scenario above is very close to what may become actual events some day, in the not too distant future.

Will Deep Throat be Prosecuted?

Will Deep Throat be prosecuted?

Your will not be surprised to learn that Richard Nixon was one of my favorite Presidents of the US. Having stated that, for the record, you will not be surprised to learn that I would like to see the Feds prosecute "Deep Throat" for passing confidential FBI files to the MSM, if, that is, in fact, what he did.

There is no question that Mr. Nixon got what was coming to him. That does not justify, in my mind, breaking the law to pass information along to reporters who were known to be unfriendly to the White House in the first place. As most of us have been taught from our mother’s knee: “Two wrongs don’t make a right”.

President Nixon paid the price for his misdeeds. Now, it is time for “Deep Throat” to pay for his.

There is no excuse for breaking the law. However, he is protected by the one-sided clock afforded the left for members of it’s own cause, whether republican or democrat.

"Deep Throat" is being applauded all over the MSM.(for new readers MSM is: Mainstream Media.) There is a veritable orgy of self-congratulations polluting the airwaves of the broadcast media. And, by the time the print media is delivered to our homes, another orgy will be played out all over the pages of newsprint. Then, of course, the weekly News Magazines will play the same song, third verse. It is nauseating.

The double standard of the MSM is on public display, for everyone to see, with the story of "Deep Throat". If you ever had ANY doubt, as to the bias of the MSM, your doubt should now be erased... forever.

Would that John Ashecroft was still US Attorney General. This case would be handled properly, according to the law. Our new US Attorney General, I believe, is keeping a low profile waiting for his nomination to fill the first vacancy on the Supreme Court. No high profile cases will be coming out of the US Justice Department for a while.

I know it is wishful thinking to expect the law, and the press, to act with evenhandedness in cases such as this. Still, respect for the law is, well, used to be, the hallmark of this republic. It appears that too, has gone by the wayside as the fight for power has taken prominence in the once hallowed halls of the US Government in Washington.

What a world we have created. A world of lies and counter lies, of facades of innocence to cover the "power-grabbing" going on behind that screen.

Is it any wonder the readership of the print media in this country is down…way down? Is it any wonder the liberal broadcast networks have lost, and are losing, viewers by the thousands? The American public is far more educated now that we have the unfiltered Internet.

The shameful display of the MSM wallowing in the putrid pools of self-congratulations is abhorrent to watch, to read and hear.

This once great nation continues to devour itself. Pity, pity.

Your Obedient Servant,

“Longstreet”
