Liberals are Killing America ... Alan Caruba

Liberals are Killing America
By Alan Caruba

It is not a new observation, but it is one that needs review and repeating every so often. Why do liberals always seem to get on the wrong side of any issue concerning America’s future? Its sovereignty? Its financial security? Its defense?

I think this question is particularly timely given the public discussion of Obamacare that included a huge peaceful protest march on Washington September 12th. The President’s non-stop campaign to get “reform” passed and the heated exchanges in Congress do not represent actual healthcare reform, but are testimony to a liberal obsession with a very bad idea.

You know something is desperately wrong when Democrats will not permit the proposed bill to enjoy a grace period of 72 hours during which both the public and members of Congress can actually read it before a vote is taken.

The irony of the current battle is that the bill will significantly change Medicare, a program advocated by liberals and, like Social Security, established by Democrats in Congress. It will destroy a free market for insurance programs individuals may choose to purchase. Or not.

There is no dispute that both programs, safety nets for Americans, have been helpful. Neither is voluntary There is no doubt that both are insolvent because they are unsustainable. This has been exacerbated by the way Congress has dipped into the funds intended to be set aside for them.

Obamacare will end up killing a lot of the people that Medicare was intended to save from the diseases and accidents that afflict the elderly.

It is not so much a “reform” as an admission of the failure of Congress to properly administer Medicare. Moreover, the “reform” will seize control of one sixth of the nation’s economy and dangerously, insidiously come between physician and patient.

It is a reform that is doomed to failure because there simply are not enough doctors, nurses, and other licensed and certified healthcare providers.

The global warming hoax and the arguments that “saving the environment” justifies a horrid “cap-and-trade” bill under consideration is another example of how liberal zeal for apparently noble “causes” reaps more harm than good. In the process, actual known, proven science has been abandoned.

In many ways, America has historically demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to Nature. The set asides of vast tracks of national forests and natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone attest to this and the national effort to clean our waters and air attest to this.

The problem, one that was anticipated and feared by the Founding Fathers, is the continued expansion of the federal government’s control over all aspects of our lives. The creation and existence of the departments of education and energy have harmed America in countless ways. The Environmental Protection Agency is an assault on science and property rights. All are essentially unconstitutional.

There never was any scientific evidence for “global warming” and yet it has been the all-purpose “go to” justification for restrictions that range from toilets that lack sufficient power to flush and, soon, a prohibition on the incandescent light bulb. Environmental restrictions have done irreparable harm to the nation’s economic growth.

Natural phenomenon from hurricanes to floods to forest fires have been blamed on global warming and this continues even though the Earth has been in a cooling cycle for a decade and what warming occurred after 1850 was a natural cyclical response to a previous little ice age that had begun in the 1300s.

Liberals, however, lack common sense. Environmentalism has transformed from conservation to a wholesale attack on America’s industrial base and, in a larger sense, capitalism. The Left has always attacked capitalism and the free market system that is essentially self-regulating.

This is particularly evident in liberal efforts to render the nation unable to access its own vast energy reserves of oil, natural gas, and coal. Energy is called the “master resource” because, without it, life can be harsh and progress in the form of innovation and invention, slows. Industrialized nations are differentiated from “undeveloped” nations almost entirely on the basis of the availability and widespread use of affordable energy.

Liberals, however, would not just leave vast parts and populations of the world bereft of the energy needed to grow crops, create jobs, and serve the basic needs of their people, but continue to use environmentalism to denigrate everything from driving one’s car to the use of plush toilet paper.

While America has always been “a nation of immigrants”, the process of accepting new citizens has been undermined in recent decades by the ceaseless flow of illegal aliens entering the nation and not merely ignoring the naturalization process, but also taking wrongful advantage of social programs such as welfare, our educational system, and our healthcare system. Liberals, however, continue to campaign for amnesty programs.

The liberal attack on the institution of marriage, on the free expression of religious faith, and other elements necessary to a civil society is yet another example of the way a nation they profess to love is undermined as its core values are systematically destroyed.

And let it be said that in the decades since the 1960s and 70s, men and women who have been elected to Congress and to occupy the White House on the basis of their avowed conservatism, have too often yielded to liberal arguments and programs. Tax and spend is now a bipartisan philosophy.

Liberals now hold majority political power in Congress and the White House, and the nation has been witness to the abandonment of our allies abroad and an appalling level of corruption, wasteful spending on pet projects, of which ACORN is just one example.

Liberals created the programs that led to massive mortgage loan failures; liberal programs enacted to impose “fairness” ignored the inability of everyone to own their own home. Something was desperately wrong when government entitles such as Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac owned over half of all mortgage loans.

The government’s failure to exercise oversight and regulation over all elements of the nation’s financial system, based on existing laws, has resulted in the greatest ponzi scheme of the modern era and the failure of banks and investment houses. The Federal Reserve is neither federal nor a reserve.

Lastly, the grasp for ever more power, the introduction of unelected “czars” in the executive branch, and the possibility that the most liberal president ever elected is seeking the destruction of the nation call for both action and an increased devotion to conservative principles.

Americans are demanding a return to governance based on the limits of the Constitution and the reduction of senseless spending and borrowing. America belongs to “We the People” and We the People must defend it from those who see America only as a nation to be plundered.

Czarist America!

Czarist America!
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
*********************************** is reporting the following: “By 2012, nearly $1 trillion from the top 30 percent of American families will be redistributed among the bottom 70 percent if Obama’s proposals on taxes, health care, and climate change become law, according to the Tax Foundation. “Even if none of Obama’s policies becomes law, the extent of income redistribution is remarkable,” Scott Hodge, president of the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, said. “The top-earning 40 percent of families will transfer $826 billion to the bottom 60 percent in 2012.” Under the Obama plan, 70 percent of American families as a group -- those earning less than $109,460 -- will receive more in benefits than they pay in taxes, Hodge said. “The majority of people below the 70 percent mark will get more back than they pay in taxes,” Hodge told

This is a story you NEED to read and to consider. You’ll find it HERE.

THIS, Dear Reader, is Socialism… “Redistribution of the Wealth.” For Conservative Americans our worst nightmare has come true… America has become, indisputably, a Socialist State!

We might add also, America will soon be listed among that list of socialist states that have failed. Why? Because, inevitably the founders of socialist states forget two very important things: One, the folks from whom the money is being taken, money they made from their labor, their efforts, will soon come to question why they should work so hard when what they have earned is taken from them. They will slack off, production will drop, and the national economy will tank. And two, eventually the inevitable will happen, the money will run out.

To reinforce the socialist state mentality, the Obama Regime has put in place a group of Czars. These Czars can operate behind he scenes to drive the government in directions you and I might loathe, but since they are insulated from the public, from the Congress, they have the power of true Czars, which is nearly unlimited, and deeply hidden from public scrutiny. This is only a part of the Shadow Government we warned the Obama regime would usher in if elected. Back then, months and months ago, we warned that Obama would only be the public image portrayed by the real rulers of America the – the Shadow Government. We warned that the Shadow Government would use Obama’s narcissism against him. We warned they would allow Obama to think, to believe, the HE is actually pulling the strings when, all the while, the Shadow Government, through the Czars, are actually running America.

These Czars are not elected and they are unanswerable to the American people. They issue rules and regulations that have the force of law. Go against them and they will crush you. Like the Russian emperors for whom the word “Czar” was coined, they are very nearly all powerful.

Who are these Czars? Well, we still do not know the identity of some of the Czars. There are some we do, however. Take a look at the list of those identified Czars below:

Obama and the Utopian Dream of Nuclear Disarmament

Obama and the Utopian Dream of Nuclear Disarmament

A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

Just a few days ago we watched as President Obama chaired the United Nations Security Council for the first time and pledged to bring nuclear disarmament to the planet.

See, the thing is – he was SERIOUS about it! Now, nuclear disarmament alone frightens me, but having a President who actually believes in it and is pledging to do it, scares me witless!

What we have here, people, is a Utopian Dream right out of the 1960’s peace movement and ban-the-bomb movement.

I suppose I should not be surprised. I mean our government is filled with old hippies who reached the high water mark of their lives during the 60’s as wreaths of marijuana smoke swirled about their heads. One has to wonder these days -- as one views the distress our country is in -- just how much lasting damage those funny cigarettes left on their brains?

Since that morning back in 1945 when we vaporized a Japanese city, people have wanted to climb under rocks to escape the fact that the nuclear genie was let out of the bottle and cannot be put back in. That genie is out forever.

As the nuclear virus spread over the world and country after country, by hook or crook, managed to acquire atomic weapons, the margin for error, or a nuclear accident, has widened exponentially. Plus, the ever-present threat that a rogue nation would also acquire nuclear weapons and hold other countries or, indeed, the world, for ransom, has strained the nerves of the planet’s inhabitants.

However, the plain truth is nuclear weapons are here to stay. There is no getting rid of them. No country, which has them now, is going to give them up -- unless made to do so by another country with MORE nuclear weapons than they!

So what makes Obama think he can affect the nuclear disarmament movement in such a way as to cause nuclear-armed countries to dump their arsenals?

To answer that -- one must be brutally honest. The brutally honest answer is that we are very afraid Mr. Obama has some issue with narcissism and he honestly believes the power of his own charisma will, alone, force people to become compliant to his will and they will do as he asks simply because it is he, and ONLY HE, who is asking.

When a man, any man, pledges to “end war” and to “seek a world without nuclear weapons”, you must take notice. The expression of self-love encompassed within those words is striking. Remember narcissism? I believe we mentioned that we fear Mr. Obama MAY have issues with it, didn’t we?

Oh, and for those of us who think the US is spending WAY too much to assist foreign countries, Mr. Obama pledged recently to DOUBLE the amount those nations, less fortunate than us, are getting from the US Treasury now. Is there any wonder the UN nations voted unanimously to support Obama’s anti-nuke stance?

So what if the people of the United States are not interested in reducing the size of our nuke stockpile? Well, Obama says he won’t unilaterally disarm the US. Of course not! He needs the cover of OTHER nations reducing their stockpiles first before he can sell such an idea to enough Americans to allow him to do such a crazy thing in the first place.

To our international readers, please understand this: America is STILL a representative republic. The President can do very little the American people do not approve first. At best, Mr. Obama has roughly 50% of the electorate with him. So, any promises he makes, to any nation, or group of nations, of the world, should always be taken with a grain of salt -- with a measure of D O U B T. If you remember that, in the end, you will not be surprised, nearly as much, when he fails to deliver on those promises.

As an example of a representative republic’s power, Obama has, so far been unable to get the US Senate to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty nor the Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty. The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty must be signed by December 5th, 2009 and he desperately needs it to be ratified before the conclusion of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference in May of 2010. Obama’s hope is that Congress will vote on the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty no later than 2011, and he really needs the fissile-material cutoff treaty wrapped up before his first term ends in January 2013. This is highly unlikely. He faces tremendous opposition in the Congress. For more on this we recommend you read the article: Obama’s Misguided Nuclear Triad” at HERE.

Obama’s “Ram-it-down-their-throat” tactics used with Cap and Trade, and ObamaCare (Socialized Medicine) and soon with amnesty for illegal aliens, and currently with all the nuclear treaties, have not made him any friends on Capitol Hill. When all this background is considered, one must conclude that all the grandstanding at the UN recently, was, well, just that: GRANDSTANDING.

Amnesty for Illegal Aliens On The Way Back!

Amnesty for Illegal Aliens on the way back!
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
A few days ago I wrote and published the article below. Since then there have been further developments which led me to believe that it might be a good idea to re-published once again.

What happened?

On Friday, September 25th, the following was reported by

"Administration Will Cut Border Patrol Deployed on U.S-Mexico Border:" "Administration Will Cut Border Patrol Deployed on U.S-Mexico Border." In the article written by By Terence P. Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Jeffrey said the following: " Even though the Border Patrol now reports that almost 1,300 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border is not under effective control, and the Department of Justice says that vast stretches of the border are “easily breached,” and the Government Accountability Office has revealed that three persons “linked to terrorism” and 530 aliens from “special interest countries” were intercepted at Border Patrol checkpoints last year, the administration is nonetheless now planning to decrease the number of Border Patrol agents deployed on the U.S.-Mexico border.

In his article Mr.Jeffrey went on to say:" Border Patrol Director of Media Relations Lloyd Easterling confirmed this week--as I first reported in my column yesterday--that his agency is planning for a net decrease of 384 agents on the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal 2010, which begins on October 1.

A Department of Homeland Security annual performance review updated by the Obama administration on May 7 said the Border Patrol “plans to move several hundred Agents from the Southwest Border to the Northern Border to meet the FY 2010 staffing requirements, with only a small increase in new agents for the Southwest Border in the same year.” You can read the entire article HERE.

I have to ask: Does this sound like our governments is actualy concerned about the flood of illegal aliens coming into our country every year? I didn't think so. In any event, it prompted me to offer up the following article, once again, to help clear-up the problem.

(July 15th, 2009)

Amnesty for Illegal Aliens Back Soon? You Bet!
J. D. Longstreet
Time to get the e-mail humming to your Senators again. Phone calls work well, too. Faxes are also important. Even a telegram to your senator’s office would be helpful

We were fairly sure it was premature to declare the death of the Immigration Bill, the last time it was defeated in the Senate. And sure enough, here it comes again. We have no choice but to man the barricades once again.

Isn’t there something very sad (and very telling) when the people of a country have to “force” their own government to respond to the wishes of their people? Isn’t it telling as to how far we have traveled down the road toward “totalitarian government”? Have we learned anything??? I doubt it!

Oh, and there is this: When we say “totalitarian” government these days we mean one of two distinct types of governance: Islamofacist or communist.

“Once more, into the breach,” conservatives!!!

So, here’s what’s going on:

A few days ago, President Obama played host for a White House meeting to re-launch the legislative process for “comprehensive” immigration reform. Then, a few days afterwards, several big city police chiefs went public and urged Congress to bring illegal immigrants “out from the shadows.” If you are asking yourself why you haven’t heard about this, you probably HAVE heard about it but since it just isn’t very important to YOU, you probably shuffled it off to some dark corner of your mind until you have the time - and the inclination to deal with it. Anyway, the pollsters seem to think that, or something very like that, is what has happened to Amnesty for illegal aliens in the US. Well, my dear fellow Americans, we’d better GET INTERESTED again… and quickly.

If I am correct, Obama is about to ram the old Amnesty Bill right through Congress and sign it into law before we even know what hit us! And the Mainstream Media, in league with The Obama Legions, are playing along with Obama in an attempt to keep us distracted with all the many and varied crises sucking up all the ink from their publications and all the air time from their broadcasts.

And… to make matters even worse for those of us who oppose Amnesty, there is a huge disconnect between the citizens of America and their representatives in the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. Read the full story HERE.

According to Rasmussen Reports Sixty-six percent (66%) of likely voters nationwide say it is Very Important for the government to improve its enforcement of the borders and reduce illegal immigration. Now, consider THIS: Just 32% of America’s Political Class agrees. Surprised? Neither am I! We have said all along the problem with illegal immigration across our southern border could be fixed, almost immediately, if the government wanted it fixed! Now we know for certain that they do not want the southern border sealed. See, those are democratic voters coming across that invisible line headed north into the land of milk and honey and along side them on their northward trek is cheap labor!

Basically, Americans STILL want the border closed and sealed FIRST! It is common sense to stop the leak before bailing. Once the border is closed and sealed then taking care of those aliens here illegally can begin and mass deportations can begin.

Like you, I have heard all the arguments from the government that they cannot find all those 12 million, or so, illegal aliens who have integrated into our society in order to deport them. I don’t buy it, not for one second. If the government was serious about finding them all they’d have to do is enlist the help of American citizens and you would have convoys of school buses, or tractor/trailer trucks, filled to capacity with illegal aliens, headed south, to the border, to be deported. Maybe the government doesn’t know where they are, but you can bet your bottom dollar American citizens know where they are - or can find them - post haste.

Yes, Americans ARE angry with the illegal alien mess and the numerous attempts by our government to offer them amnesty, which would, in time, offer them citizenship. But, as Rasmussen learned when doing their survey, Americans are not mad at the illegal aliens. No! They/we are mad at our government for allowing this to happen in the first place!

Those of you who support open borders do not, I repeat, do not try to beat us about the head and shoulders with the old saw that says America is a nation of immigrants. See, we already know that because our ancestors were immigrants, too. Mine came into the country, legally, in 1789 through what was then Charles Town Harbor, and were assigned a place in the 96th precinct of the state of South Carolina. Notice - they came into this country LEGALLY! That is all we expect of any who want to immigrate to America. Do it legally and we will welcome you with open arms. Do it illegally and we want you caught and deported, forthwith!

It is becoming ever more clear, everyday, that America’s biggest problem with illegal immigration is not with those who illegally break into our country and help to bleed it dry, but with our government which refuses to uphold the laws already on the books. Had those laws been enforced we would not be in the situation we find ourselves today. Plus, the problem of what to do with these 12-plus million illegal aliens would not be a problem, at all, if the government would simply follow the laws on the books today.

The bottom line for Americans to ponder is… what do we do with a government that refuses to uphold/enforce the nation’s laws? Well, let me ask you - suppose you had a business and an employee consistently refused to follow the rules of the workplace. What would you do to that employee? See? The answer is simple. The ONLY way we are ever going to get relief from this problem is to clean the house in Washington.

My friend and fellow blogger, Alan Caruba, recently said in his piece entitled “A Crisis of Governors”: “What, in fact, Americans are witnessing is a failure of government at both the state and federal level. The nation has managed to elect too many people to public office that are so clearly inept, incompetent, and untrustworthy, it poses a threat to the republic.” Alan, as usual, is spot on. America’s most dangerous enemy, at the moment, is its own government! I would add that, in my opinion, America’s second worst enemy, at the moment, is its own ignorance. It was through the ignorance of the American electorate that these pitifully inept politicians were elected to office to begin with.

Maybe a third party, working hard over decades, could turn it around, but frankly, I doubt it. Americans are so woefully ignorant of how a representative republic is supposed to work that I have serious doubts we are capable of doing that which is necessary to save our country. Then, there is the opposition from the politicians themselves. If we know anything, we know the two parties in power today watch each other’s backs when it comes to Americans forming a powerful third party. They make sure it is almost impossible for that to happen.

Until we can come up with a solution to the problem of an unresponsive government we are stuck standing on the sidelines observing the largest land invasion and take-over of a country in the history of the world.

“ISLAM On Capitol Hill” Rally Today... 09-25-09

“ISLAM On Capitol Hill” Rally Today (09-25-09)

A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

I received the following by e-mail. Below is the text of that e-mail:

Obama did not have (for the first time ever) the annual White House CHRISTIAN Prayer Breakfast this year.

On Aug. '09 The Obama Administration Denied (for the first time ever) a Flyover at the 43rd annual 'God and Country' Rally in Colorado, "because of its CHRISTIAN nature."

AND NOW............

We should have heard about this upcoming Muslim rally in Washington months ago, but, our (?) government, who issues permits for these gatherings on public property, did not bother to let it be known.

Did you hear ANYTHING about the following Muslim National Prayer Gathering on the "mainstream" news???? Of course not. This is another very important e-mail for us to read and take into consideration as to where Obama's agenda is taking America. Read on:

Washington, D.C. - On September 25th there will be a national prayer gathering of Muslims on the west front of the U.S. Capitol Building. They are expecting at least 50,000 to attend from mosques all across America. They will gather to pray from 4:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The gathering will take place by the site where U.S. Presidents have been inaugurated since 1981. The organizers say that it was Obama's inauguration speech in January and his speech broadcast from EGYPT in June that gave them the idea for this prayer gathering on Capitol Hill.

They have a website set up for this event. If you never look at another website look at this one, especially the final words:

So, I did a little checking -- and found that “Snopes” had this to say about it: TRUE. You will find a write-up on it from Snopes HERE.

Over at the Washington Post Jeff Diamant has an article entitledIslam Goes to Bat for America.” In his piece Mr. Diamant says: “Tens of thousands of Muslims plan to pray "for the soul of America" outside the U.S. Capitol this month in what is being described as a first-of-its-kind event.

The event, headed by the Dar-ul-Islam mosque in Elizabeth, N.J., will not include political speeches or placards, just prayer, said Hassen Abdellah, president of Dar-ul-Islam and a main organizer of the Sept. 25 event. You may read the entire article HERE.

Still feel a little uneasy about this uh, Prayer Meeting?’ Well, then, take a gander at this from website “Atlas Shrugged”: “September 25th, National Prayer Day - Leader of "Islam on Capitol Hill" said: "The White House Will Become the Muslim House," America is "Controlled by the Jews.”

Shocking? I’ll say! Now read the entire article HERE.

Do you begin to see the reason a lot, I mean A LOT, of folks are uneasy about this massive gathering of Islamic practitioners at the nation’s capitol?

These are dangerous times in America. “It is past time for all good Americans to come to the aid of their country.” That is a statement I am hearing and reading more and more these days. It is beginning to sound like a rallying cry for Americans concerned about the direction America is being taken by the socialist regime at the helm in the nation’s capitol.

Now, maybe it is just me, but this whole Islamic rally strikes me as nothing more than a show of the power of Muslims in America and it is deeply frightening to many Americans. Frankly, it is troublesome to me.

America could once claim the title of a “Christian nation.” Evidently, that time has passed and today we are, well, frankly, I don’t know what we are! Diversity and multiculturalism have taken a tremendous toll on America. She stands today a husk of her former self.

Our President took to the podium at the United Nations this week and took the opportunity to “sell out” the only friend America has in the Middle East – Israel. In calling for a Palestinian state, alongside Israel, his naiveté was on display like a marching band parading across the stage behind him. Everybody in that room knew what Obama was proposing was/is unworkable and will lead to a blood-letting in the Middle East the likes of which the world has never before seen. It could be, in fact, Armageddon! Yet, there he was, the representative of a once free nation, America, giving orders to another sovereign nation, Israel, and setting the US up as the fall guy when the “ship hits the sand” in that region, And believe me, when I tell you, that it will!. When a Palestinian state and an Israeli state go head to head in furious conflict the remainder of the planet’s nation will be forced to choose sides, and THAT, Dear Reader, will be, or will lead to, Armageddon!

What happens today (or what has happened today, depending upon your time zone and/or the time you are reading this, is another symptom of the decline and fall of America. Prophets, here in America, unrecognized as such, have been warning of just this thing for many decades now, but just as the folks of the prophet Jeremiah’s time Americans have “stopped” their ears and will not hear the dire warnings emanating from the Christian community, mainly because most of those prophets are from the evangelical side of the Christian faith in America. Like the Prophet Jeremiah, they are being laughed at, mocked, and abused, and their warnings are being misused to make sport of them before all of America.

At the risk of sounding bigoted, I must be honest and tell you that -- as I view that mass gathering of Muslims in the nation’s capitol today, I will not be seeing a prayer meeting. Instead, I will be see great silver airliners crashing into those shiny steel and glass buildings we, once upon a time, called The World Trade Center. I will be seeing the horror and the grief, and the nearly three thousand bodies of innocent dead Americans, and others from around the world, gathered there to do business, to indulge in capitalism, and to pursue happiness by providing for their families by the practice of their chosen professions.

I cannot forget the religious faith of those who hi-jacked those planes and murdered those thousands of innocent people on American soil. As I close my eyes that final time I will see, emblazoned upon the dark undersides of my eyelids, men and women leaping from hundreds of feet above the ground, to escape the flames licking at their heels, into the arms of the instantaneous death they knew awaited them at the end of their downward plunge. That sight remains with me always and I fully expect to take it to my grave.

Nothing that Muslim rally does today will remove the bitter gall left in the back of my throat by the premeditated murder of thousands on American soil… nothing!

From Sneezes to Freezes ... Michael Shannon

Editor's Note:
As President Obama stood before the United Nations this week and, in our opinion, "sold out" Israel, the only friend the US has in the Middle East, it became even more clear, to this scribe, that Obama is a proponent of a "One World Government" or "Global Governance." I am more convinced than ever the ultimate Obama goal is a single government covering the entire planet earth and overseen by the UN.

We have been convinced for some time that Obama is no friend of Israel and Obama's speech at the UN sealed that opinion for us.

It bothers me a great deal that Obama gave the impression that he was speaking for ALL Americans when he made those remarks. The truth is -- he does not speak for ALL AMERICANS! Me, for instance!

I am from the old school of Americans who believe that America stands by her friends. Apparently, Obama does not.

To Bebe Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, we say: "Hang in there!" The socialist Obama, and his cohorts in the Congress, will not always be in charge of the government of America. At the rate they are wearing out their welcome with the American people today, much of their power will be lost by the end of next year. Roughly half of the electorate of America is fed up wth them, even now.

We would also ask our long-suffering Israeli friends to not allow what Obama says to reflect on all Americans. I repeat -- he does not speak for all of us.

Our guest commentator, Michael Shannon, has some thoughts on the Obama Administration we'd like to share with you, our readers. We think you'll find them interesting, enlightening, and even humorous. (See below)

From Sneezes to Freezes

by: Michael Shannon
Politicians are notorious for their inability to take a joke or tell one, and the Obama Administration appears to be a particularly humor-free zone. That’s why I think all cabinet secretaries should be issued one staffer who has not attended an Ivy League school, but who did tell an original joke sometime after the age of 21.

Then the public would be spared the sight of Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano teaching the citizens of the United States how to sneeze on their arm.

One look during rehearsals at Napolitano doing her Bela Lugosi impersonation and the Humor Czar would have quietly told her that particular tidbit of information should come from a nurse, teacher or third grader.

Personally, I thought Janet looked hilarious until it occurred to me the problem with this Administration is that you’re never certain they won’t escalate into more personal areas of hygiene instruction.

So it’s no wonder that a White House that has time to teach America to sneeze also has time to supervise zoning and building permits in Israel. Over the weekend, the Administration strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s decision to continue construction of 2,500 apartments in East Jerusalem, which just happens to be the capitol of Israel. Construction must be stopped – frozen.

Sneeze lessons for Americans. Freeze demands for Israelis.

To put this in perspective, the Obama administration has no problem with Iran building nuclear power plants, because criticizing Iran would be “interference.” But the thought of an ally adding to its housing stock is an outrage.

This is just another in a series of damaging, counter-productive foreign policy decisions made by The One. Missile defense in Eastern Europe, preservation of democracy in Honduras, “peace” in the Middle East, and nukes in Iran all have one element in common: Obama does the reverse of what the Bush Administration did.

Now there’s a comforting thought for America’s friends and allies: the foreign policy of the world’s one remaining superpower is governed by Newton’s Third Law of Motion: for every new administration there is an equal and opposite policy reaction.

You expect this sort of upheaval in Botswana or Detroit, but I don’t think the diplomatic world will be comfortable with a United States that turns on a dime.

Which brings us back to Barack’s “smart growth” policies in Israel. US attempts to bring peace to the Middle East are a 30-year steaming pile of failure, simply because it takes two to tango. You can’t sign a durable peace when only one-half of the warring factions is ready to stop fighting.

Obama, of course, has the power to make all things new. So he reverses clear US policy with regard to building in Jerusalem and the West Bank, and treats Israel like it is the intransigent party.

But Obama’s peace plan is going nowhere, because his mental framework for viewing negotiations is wrong. It’s difficult to explain a genuine life-and-death conflict like the Middle East to White House staffers whose most violent encounter was wrestling with their sister for control of the remote.

So instead, let’s compare it to something they are familiar with: a really bad divorce. Here Israel is the husband. He’s resigned to the fact this relationship is not salvageable and he’s going to endure a lopsided settlement. All he wants is to live in peace and to divvy up the property – which is why he’s sitting at a table with Dr. Obama, listening to him drone on about feelings and communication.

The Palestinian Arabs are the wife, and she wants all the property and the right to make him return anything he’s owned since they first met. Plus, she genuinely wants hubby dead and spends the child support money in sleazy biker bars trying to hire someone to kill the old man.

At home she tells the children the husband is an evil abuser who wants to sell their organs and she burns up the phone lines calling UN 9–1–1, claiming that hubby is slapping her around and trying to molest the kids.

At the counseling sessions, she won’t agree to any compromise. Instead, she complains about alimony and says he’s a liar who won’t let her travel.

So maybe a good place to start negotiations would be to suggest that the wife stop hiring assassins and quit indoctrinating the kids.

But no, wise Dr. Obama doesn’t like pressuring the wife, because she’s only an eye roll away from hysteria. So instead, he wants the husband to supply an MRI that proves all his organs are original equipment.

It’s testimony to Jewish tolerance that they endure this quack.

Progress will be made when we and the Administration recognize three truths regarding the Middle East:

1) Only an idiot signs a treaty with an opponent that’s still fighting.

2) Only the deluded sign a treaty with a “government” incapable of enforcing its end of the agreement.

3) Judge Judy can produce a better Middle East agreement than this White House.

The Department of Defenselessness ... Alan Caruba

The Department of Defenselessness
By Alan Caruba

When World War Two arrived at America’s doorstep, we had to virtually build an Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines from scratch. The war had been raging in Europe since 1939 by the time the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor propelled us into war in 1941. The Japanese had been sacking, raping and looting Manchuria and China since 1931.

Now President Obama wants to reduce the U.S. arsenal of nuclear weapons to a reported “hundreds rather than thousands” to prepare for deep cuts. Truman was the first and last president to actually use a nuclear weapon to end the war with Japan.

Since then, all presidents have paid lip service to reducing the threat of nuclear weapons, but there is an iron law that says you cannot “un-invent” something once it comes into existence.

The suggestion that the world is “safer” or “less safe” because nuclear weapons exist is purely subjective. What we know is that without nuclear weapons all nations that do not have them are at a severe disadvantage with those that do.

That is why both Pakistan and India, traditional enemies, both developed their own nuclear weapons in secret while ignoring international prohibitions and proscriptions against them. It is also why little North Korea that cannot keep the lights on at night also developed them. They are a tidy source of income to a criminal communist satrap.

All the major powers have them and the worry is that they will fall into the hands of terrorists; presumably of the Muslim variety.

The big worry, however, is Iran’s program because there are few world leaders who do not doubt they will use them. Iran is not regarded as a terrorist organization like al Qaeda, but the simple fact is that Iran is the world’s leading supporter of terrorism whether you call it al Qaeda, Hizbollah, Fatah, Hamas or any one of the endless self-declared jihad groups.

So it is cause for real concern that we have a president who not only put the kibosh on a missile defense system to be placed in Poland and the Czech Republic, but now wants to unilaterally disarm or greatly reduce America’s nuclear arsenal.

Having apologized profusely to Europe and Muslim nations for America’s apparent misdeeds in coming to their defense in the past, President Obama is now punishing tiny Honduras for expelling a former president who wanted to ignore that nation’s constitution and its supreme court to set up a Hugo Chavez-type government.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Chavez, a big fan of Fidel Castro’s Cuba, has been busy cutting deals with Russia, China, and any other nation hostile to the interests of America.

To cap off his efforts in the passed eight months, President Obama has allowed his Attorney General to re-visit decisions regarding the Central Intelligence Agency’s use of advanced interrogation techniques that are widely acknowledged to have thwarted attacks on the homeland. Seven former CIA directors wrote the President to say this was a very bad idea.

It’s a bad idea that is exacerbated by President Obama’s intention to close down Guantanamo and to return terrorists to their home nations. From there, they return to the front lines of jihad because that’s what jihadists do.

Officially, throughout the Obama administration, the words “war on terrorism” and “terrorists” are never uttered out loud. They have been banned from the lexicon of the State Department, Homeland Security, and possibly even Defense.

Meanwhile, arrests have been made of an alleged terror cell, the results of which will no doubt reveal planned attacks that would have killed many Americans.

None of this bodes well for America and all of this suggests that many more D.C. marches will be needed to encourage Congress to put the brakes on efforts to render America insolvent, in the grip of unaccountable “czars”, and defenseless.

Adapting to climate change through technology

Adapting to climate change through technology
Saluting Norman Borlaug’s scientific, agricultural and humanitarian legacy
Paul Driessen

“Since when did you become a global warming alarmist?” I kidded Norman midway into our telephone conversation a few weeks before this amazing scientist and humanitarian died.

“What are you talking about?” Dr. Borlaug retorted. “I’ve never believed that nonsense.”

I read a couple sentences from his July 29 Wall Street Journal article. “Within the next four decades, the world’s farmers will have to double production … on a shrinking land base and in the face of environmental demands caused by climate change. Indeed, [a recent Oxfam study concludes] that the multiple effects of climate change might reverse 50 years of work to end poverty.”

I mentioned that my own discussions of those issues typically emphasize how agricultural biotechnology, modern farming practices and other technological advances will make it easier to adapt to any climate changes, warmer or colder, whether caused by humans or by the same natural forces that brought countless climate shifts throughout Earth’s history.

“You’re right,” he said. “I should have been more careful. Next time, I’ll do that. And I’ll point out that the real disaster won’t be global warming. It’ll be global cooling, which would shorten growing seasons, and make entire regions less suitable for farming.”

I was amazed, as I was every time we talked. Here he was, 95 years old, “retired,” still writing articles for the Journal, and planning what he’d say in his next column.

The article we were discussing, “Farmers can feed the world,” noted Norman’s deep satisfaction that G-8 countries have pledged $20 billion to help poor farmers acquire better seeds and fertilizer. “For those of us who have spent our lives working in agriculture,” he said, “focusing on growing food versus giving it away is a giant step forward.”

Our previous conversations confirm that he would likewise have applauded the World Bank’s recent decision to subsidize new coal-fired power plants, to generate jobs and reduce poverty, by helping poor countries bring electricity to 1.5 billion people who still don’t have it. For many poor countries, a chief economist for the Bank observed, coal is the only option, and “it would be immoral at this stage to say, 'We want to have clean hands. Therefore we are not going to touch coal.’” Norman would have agreed.

“Governments,” he argued, “must make their decisions about access to new technologies … on the basis of science, and not to further political agendas.” That’s why he supported DDT to reduce malaria, biotechnology to fight hunger, and plentiful, reliable, affordable electricity to modernize China, India and other developing nations.

His humanitarian instincts and commitment to science and poverty eradication also drove his skepticism about catastrophic climate change.

He was well aware that recent temperature data and observations of solar activity and sunspots indicate that the Earth could be entering a period of global cooling. He had a healthy distrust of climate models as a basis for energy and economic policy. And he knew most of Antarctica is gaining ice, and it would be simply impossible for Greenland or the South Pole region to melt under even the more extreme temperature projections from those questionable computer models.

He also commented that humans had adapted to climate changes in the past, and would continue to do so. They would also learn from those experiences, developing new technologies and practices that would serve humanity well into the future.

The Ice Ages doubtless encouraged people to unlock the secrets of fire and sew warm clothing. The Little Ice Age spawned changes in societal structure, housing design, heating systems and agriculture. The Dust Bowl gave rise to contour farming, crop rotation, terracing and other improved farming practices.

Norman’s dedication to science, keen powers of observation, dogged perseverance, and willingness to live for years with his family in Mexico, India and Pakistan resulted in the first Green Revolution. It vastly improved farming in many nations, saved countless lives, and converted Mexico and India from starving grain importers to self-sufficient exporters.

In his later years, he became a champion of biotechnology, as the foundation of a second Green Revolution, especially for small-holder farmers in remote parts of Africa. Paul Ehrlich and other environmentalists derided his ultimately successful attempt to defuse “The Population Bomb” through his initial agricultural advances, and attacked him for his commitment to biotechnology.

His response to the latter assaults was typically blunt. “There are 6.6 billion people on the planet today. With organic farming, we could only feed 4 billion of them. Which 2 billion would volunteer to die?”

The Atlantic Monthly estimated that Norman’s work saved a billion lives. Leon Hesser titled his biography of Borlaug The Man Who Fed the World. Competitive Enterprise Institute senior fellow Greg Conko dubbed him a “modern Prometheus.” Science reporter Greg Easterbrook saluted him as the “forgotten benefactor of mankind.” And the magician-comedy-political team of Penn and Teller said he was “the greatest human being who ever lived.”

He deserved every award and accolade – and merited far more fame in the United States than he received, though he was well known in India, Mexico and Pakistan, where his work had made such a difference.

Norman was also a devoted family man and educator. He served as Distinguished Professor of International Agriculture at Texas A&M University into his nineties. A year and a half ago, he gladly spent 40 minutes on the telephone with my daughter, who interviewed him for a high school freshman English “true hero” paper – and did so just after returning from the hospital and on the one-year anniversary of his beloved wife Margaret’s death.

He told my daughter it was because of Margaret, “and her faith in me and what I was doing, that we were able to live in Mexico, under conditions that weren’t nearly as good as what we could have had in the United States, and I was able to do my work on wheat and other crops.”

I sent him occasional articles, and we talked every few months, about biotech, global warming, malaria eradication, some new scientific report one of us had seen, or some website he thought I should visit. As we wrapped up our early August chat, we promised to talk again soon. Sadly, he entered a hospice and passed away before that could happen.

His mind was “still as clear as ever,” his daughter Jeanie told me, but his body was giving out. To the very end, Norman was concerned about Africa and dedicated to the humanitarian and scientific principles that had guided his life and research, and earned him the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize.

Norman left us a remarkable legacy. But as he told my daughter, “There is no final answer. We have to keep doing research, if we are to keep growing more nutritious food for more people.”

The world, its climate and insect pathogens will continue to change. It is vital that we sustain the incredible agricultural revolution that Norman Borlaug began.

A “Bail-Out” Bill For Newspapers?

A “Bail-Out” Bill For Newspapers?

A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

Call it what you like, but what it REALLY -- is a “Bail-Out” bill for newspapers!

It is S.673 and its official name is: "Newspaper Revitalization Act." The bill was introduced by Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat of Maryland, and so far, it has only one co-sponsor and that is Senator Barbara Mikulski, also a Democrat, and also of Maryland.

The proffered deal is, as we understand it, predicated upon the newspaper, being bailed out, becoming a non-profit organization of some sort. That would require restructuring as a 501 (c ) (3) organization. You can learn more about it HERE.

Do you suppose the reason this bill seems bereft of co-sponsors might have something to do with the fact that it is intended to bail-out newspapers and the good Senators are scared witless that if they dare co-sponsor this bill they will be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail by their constituents back home? I wonder. HUMM.

There is one thing we know for certain, and can be easily proved, and that is that the bulk of the news industry, at least in the USA, is far and away leftist in their political beliefs. And we know this: The mainstream media has been a supporter of Obama since day one and continues to act as cheerleaders for him and for his policies with every publication.

There is one other thing we know, as well. If the Senate wants a knock-down, drag-out, fight on it’s hands, a fight with it’s very own constituents, then all it has to do is bring this bill to the floor of the Senate.

For you folks who reside in the hallowed city of Washington, DC, cut-off from the real world where the “Great Unwashed,” your constituents, reside, you need to be made aware of something. To us, the Mainstream Media is a laughing stock. It is a JOKE! We even have little “pet” names for the various left-wing publications.

We knew, long before Election Day in 2008, that the media was “in the tank” for Obama. One would have had to be deaf, dumb, and blind, not to see it. Nothing has changed since, except the passion with which the MsM defends Obama’s policies. If anything they have become even MORE passionate about Obama’s blatantly obvious socialist tendencies.

Back on July 21st of 2008, Rasmussen Reports reported the following: The idea that reporters are trying to help Obama win in November has grown by five percentage points over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, taken just before the new controversy involving the New York Times erupted, found that 49% of voters believe most reporters will try to help the Democrat with their coverage, up from 44% a month ago.

Just 14% believe most reporters will try to help McCain win, little changed from 13% a month ago. Just one voter in four (24%) believes that most reporters will try to offer unbiased coverage.” Read the entire article HERE. That report was made in July of 2008, several months before the election.

A “Bail-Out Bill” for newspapers has actually been bantered about as a joke for several months now amongst lowly taxpayers. Most never suspected the Congress was THAT DUMB! Apparently, we were wrong! They are THAT DUMB!

I don’t know about you, but I will be firing-off another e-mail to my Senators and to my Congressman strongly suggesting they not support such a bone-headed action in their respective body of the Congress. Like many of my readers, I have come to suspect that most of my e-mails fall victim to the “delete” key about as fast as they arrive at their destination in DC, but, hey, we must keep trying!

You know, I continue to look at news article (cited above) on that Senate bill and it is STILL difficult to see it as anything but a joke. It is a sad commentary on the state of our legislative body in America today.

We have a chance to do something about it in November of next year. It is NOT TOO EARLY to begin readying ourselves to remove as many of the folks now occupying seats in the worst Congress in the history of the US and replacing them with representatives to the two bodies sworn to actually represent us in this Representative Republic. If we don’t, what is left of the “Representative” part of Representative Republic will be completely gone and we will have a Socialist Republic. We are extremely close, even now. Some say we are virtually indistinguishable from a socialist state already.

If we are to save what is left of our country, we are going to have to work harder than we ever worked during the campaigning season. The first thing to remember is -- it is never too early to begin to fight back.

J. D. Longstreet
