Ho-Hum. Romney’s In.

Ho-Hum. Romney’s In.

A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

Well, Mitt Romney sealed the deal today.   He is officially in the race for the GOP nomination as the Republican candidate for President of the United States.  It is truly a shame that one person can delude himself as completely as Mr. Romney appears to have done.

Look, Mr. Romney may well win the nomination – but that is as far as he will go.

For any republican candidates to win against Obama in 2012 will require economic conditions so grim as to be practically unthinkable.  It will also take a humongous amount of money.  Plus, it will require the suspension of all doubt that Mr. Romney will stick to his positions after election.  Given his record of “flip-flops” there is more than ample reason for Americans to distrust his current position declarations.

Of course there is also ample reason t believe the national economy will, in the next few months crash and burn sending the US into a second, worse recession, or even a grinding depression.

We have a Congress scared witless.  One side is afraid that if they make the right decisions and take the necessary actions to save the American economy -- they will not be reelected.  The other side believes that if they make the right decisions and take the necessary actions to save the American economy -- they will not be reelected.

See the conundrum here?  It smacks of a paradoxical problem, which is insoluble. -- a Gordian knot, of sorts.  It presents the American people with a national unbelievableIt is a complete meltdown of the legislative branch of the US government. problem – a national dilemma.

There is no solution on the horizon.  The Republicans have painted them selves into a corner, and the democrats have done the same.  What’s worse, they have entrenched within those static positions.  Any warrior will tell you that static positions are, by their nature, defensive.
Frankly, the ongoing fight between the republicans and the democrats in the Congress reminds, very much, of two Bantam roosters fighting.  One is scared – and the other is glad of it!

All the while Obama is solidifying his grasp of victory in the 2012 elections.

Some will say I am being negative.  I would rebut by saying, I am looking at our national situation with a clear eye and I am conveying to you, as best I can, what I believe will be the results of the near total ineffectiveness of 535 grown men and women so wrapped up in themselves they have made a mockery of the legislative process in our government – and may, in fact, be the cause of the collapse of our system of government.

Obama appears to believe much the same as I do concerning the total uselessness of our Congress.  He has made a fine art of simply by-passing the Congress to install his socialist/communist/environuts henchmen and henchwomen in to positions of power where their rules and regulations have the effect of law without ever touching the hoppers of the US House of Representatives or the US Senate.

Obama has assumed the powers of a “Caesar.”  And it is precisely those powers that will ensure he is returned to his throne of power in the Oval Office in November of 2012.

It is times such as these when I fervently wish the US could call for new elections on the grounds of “no confidence” and clean the House and the Senate of the sycophants, the narcissists, the power-hungry, and the just plain corrupt.  But that is not our system of government.  Since Appomattox Courthouse, we Americans have had to live with our mistakes -- or feel the weight of the mailed fist of the federal government and the cold steel of their bayonets as my Confederate ancestors did.

“…The times that try men’s souls …”  have returned – with a vengeance!  The days ahead are going to call for courage above and beyond that which has been required of Americans in a very long time.  And, I firmly believe the period of America’s degradation will last at least a generation (approximately 30 years).  This generation of Americans will ultimately pay a price unheard of in modern times for our redefining of America’s mission to this world.  In my opinion, the Obama Administration is the vanguard of all the evil that is about to befall the people of America.  And, I believe we are stuck with him for another 5-1/2 years.
