Now let’s see: Afghanistan, Iraq, The Palestinians, Libya, Egypt, and Lebanon. All these nations have become democracies or, are on the way to becoming democratic. It has all happened in just a few short months.
So “war solves nothing”, huh? Care to rethink you position on that? I thought not. When one entrenches oneself into self doubt as deeply as the peaceniks have, it is nigh impossible to extract them. So, we will simply overlook them, as we have always done. They line the fringes of our society, anyway.
No one likes war. But, contrary to what the peaceniks tell us, war does bring change for the better. Ask the Brits, the French, the Germans the Belgium’s, the Jews…. and the list goes on. (The French may still be too arrogant to admit it, but, regardless of what they tell themselves, the remainder of the world knows they exist as a nation only because of the efforts of US servicemen in two world wars.)
War changes things. The Middle East, for better or for worse, is changed forever. The US has a beachhead in the Middle East and we will be there forever. We are not going to leave. As the democracies begin to shape up, and form up, and freedom begins to spread, those who hold the dictator’s reins now will find themselves out of a job. Those who would hold the Middle East back in the 14th century will find they alone are left in the past. The people are going to move on to liberty and freedom. Once a people have tasted freedom. It is not possible to strip them of it again.
If liberty blossoms, and blooms, in the Middle East, one man will be responsible. George W. Bush. He took a stand when the rest of the world would not. He alone had a vision of a free people who would seek after democracy . Old Europe, now irrelevant, stood on the sidelines as history passed them by. There they will remain. What they do, or say is of no consequence to anyone but themselves. It is sad to see a continent commit suicide.
In the meantime, America marches on. Ronald Reagan’s dream of America as a great “shining city on a hill” still perseveres, the last hope of a world, which lost its way.

Methinks you missunderstand or are ignorant of history. THe brits and the US and france were not aggressors in wwii they were fighting the aggressor. In the middle east the US is the aggressor. Do you see the difference.
Secondly, Do you know how long of a history Iraq has. It is the site of the garden of Eden. It has been the site of the society of Persia. It has had government for hundreds and hundreds of years. Now you think the US has a right and you would argue an obligation to go over there and tell them what kind of government to have. How would you like it if some nationals came here and did that very thing in this country?
I wouldn't bet you a dime to a dollar than any of those middle east countries stay "democratic" Didn't you read that the SHiites choice of Prime MInister must be OKed by the Grand Sheik? SOme democracy that is. But that is their tradition, that is their culture, that is there religion and we should not take that from them.
Now then, who is going to supply to troups for eternal stay in the Middle East. DO you want a draft because the supply is getting thin.

I will fight for preserving those liberties in this country or anyplace where they are threatened. I will not fight and will ask noone else to fight for establishing those liberties anyplace else. The people in those places have to do that work themselves, just as we have to do our own work to get and maintain our liberties ourselves.

May I suggest you read my post again, and this time put a hold on your preconcieved notions until your mind processes what I have written. You missed, entirely, my point concerning England and France at the time of WW-2.

Ok have reread your post about wwii and stand corrected. But now to an inconsistency in your positions. YOu write about the confederacy that your ancestors were justified in fighting because they were invaded. Do you then not think the Iraqi's are justified in fighting because they were invaded. Why does our media call them insurgents. They might better be called freedom fighers.
The South offered no threat to the North (or any other Country) except an economic threat. The North could ill afford to lose the South as our Gross National Product, at the time hostilites broke out, was three times that of the northern states. The South left the US LEGALLY and Constitutionally. We did not seek a fight. The Treaty of Paris, which officially ended the Revotionary War, gave each sovereign state that right. My ancestors exercised it and were slammed for it.
I rarely agree with the MSM. They may call the terrorists in Iraq whatever they wish. Frankly, I'm not sure they ARE Iraqis. (Some are, to be sure.)
I have no problem with them fighting... when we invaded. I would have thought less of them had they not. However, they folded so quickly, it was almost embarrassing. To a westerner, it WAS embarrassing.
One thing, I'd like to point out, the ONLY reason we Southerners are not at war, to this day, with the US is... Robert E. Lee. He instructed his soldiers to lay down their arms and return home and be good citizens. (Read his final General Order to the CSA. It is found easily on the Internet.) He was so beloved, the soldiers of the Confedeacy followed his wishes. No other man, then alive, could have caused those men to lay down their arms. Had they not, America would look frighteningly like Iraq does today.
Scary thought...huh? Both North and South owe a debt of gratitude to Gen. Lee.
