The Enemy Within.

The enemy within is much worse than the enemy without.

We, of all the nations on this globe, should recognize that danger. As a Republic, with “Representatives of the People” to do our work, we surely must understand that some are more trustworthy than others.

I watched the drama unfold last week, as the challenge to Ohio’s Electoral votes rattled on, with a monotonous drone, thru out much of the day. I watched with rapt attention. In many cases I knew what the next speaker, at the lectern, would say even before he, or she, took to the well of the House. Our national politics has gotten that predictable.

The split between the Conservatives and the Liberals/”Progressives” has become better defined than at any other time is this country. The divide is deep and, again, well defined. It used to be a crevice, now it is a chasm. There is no longer compromise. Now, it is all or nothing.

One of the results I claim as “positive” is the easily discernable divide in the country. The Blue states and, the Red states. It is one thing to talk about the liberal northeast, or north, or west, but it is quite another to see it in red, and blue, on your TV screen. It has given those of us in the red states a much-needed boost. We have been forced fed the pabulum of the National Media, that we are wrong and that the majority of the country was right and we should get in line with them. We held our ground. And we won. And we will again. Our numbers are growing rapidly.

In the meantime those who lost are working behind the scenes, in the Congress, to bring ruin to our efforts to bring some “semblance” of sanity back to national politics. They smile into the TV cameras while the long knife is ever ready to eviscerate an opponent from the “right”.

But, we are beginning to get our footing. We were too long in the wilderness of national politics, but now we are on the mountaintop and digging in. We have learned the tactics of the left and we have learned how to apply them against the authors.

This time around there will be less compromising with the left. This time the Senate will move the President’s nominees for judgeships forward and get the vote of the full Senate. The battlefield is, even now, being prepared for the biggest battle of all, a Supreme Court Justice. (Possibly two.) That will likely be coming up this summer.

In the meantime, we have to be ever cautious of those within our ranks who will stop, just short of treason, to bring devastation to the “conservative cause”. They are there and not very difficult to see.

This is not a new condition for a great nation. A very long time ago, an ancient philosopher said:

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious, but it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly, but the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." --- Marcus Tullius Cicero 42 BC.

There, I have left you with something to think about.

I remain,

Your Obedient Servant,

“Longstreet”
