A New Southern Heritage Group on the Horizon??

The latest round of “in-fighting” within the SCV has ended up in the courts. In our opinion, that is the worst place differences should be discussed and settled by members. Nevertheless, it is a fact. So, we will, as SCV members, deal with it.

Oftimes, during the war of Northern Aggression, our gray clad ancestors faced odds far worse that those we face in a courtroom in Tennessee. They did not allow it to deter them. They charged into the melee and often came away victorious. I believe no less is expected of us. We certainly can do no less and at the same time honor the blood of our ancestors, which flows in the veins of all SCV members.

I have, as most SCV members in the past few days, been thinking of the worst-case scenario, which is... that we lose in the Courts in Tennessee on March 9th. Speaking only for myself, I will not remain a member of the SCV, because it will not be the organization I joined. I expect there will be great numbers of current SCV members who feel the same way.

What then, shall we do? We wish to continue our fight to preserve the heritage of our Confederate Ancestors. That has not diminished. I see only a single solution in the event of the collapse of the SCV. Immediately create another organization, from the ground up, keeping those things we cherished most from the old SCV, but this time give the new organization teeth. Teeth to stand in the face of the onslaught of Anti Confederate Heritage groups. Teeth to go to the wall in the courts, on the streets, and in the legislative buildings all across this land, as well as in Washington, D.C., when we have been challenged. And this time, gentlemen, elected officials should rule the new organization with limited terms in office, period.

I am not ready to throw in the towel, or give-up on the SCV. I think we ought to have a plan “B” in any event. Granted, a new organization would not have the historical value, and standing, as does the SCV, but with the same spirit, and work ethic, of the membership, it would quickly surpass the SCV as the heir to all things the “formerly great” SCV stood for.

But first, we fight. Our battle cry should be “No Quarter!”. Our Confederate Ancestors expect no less of us. We dare not let them down.

Your Obedient Servant,

“Longstreet”
