As I write this, I am physically ill! I just read a column, which was bemoaning how small the US Government is. It was wailing that America’s best and brightest are no longer seeking jobs in federal departments. It was about here that I came extremely close to tossing my cookies!
My God, people! The US Government is a MONSTER! It is a huge, lumbering, unwieldy, MONSTER of a bureaucracy, which needs to be starved until it is roughly 25% the size it is now. But, hey, the Libs want to grow government even more.
OK, I have said this before… and I’ll say it again. Conservatives, as a rule, do not seek government jobs. We are not the sort of people who have a thirst for power over our fellow man. So, for the most part, that takes away a huge chunk of the best and brightest American youths who might have been in the job pool waiting for a government position so they can wield that power and get paid from the public trough for 20 years and then retire on a pension… still feeding from the public trough.
Shrink the size of government? Am I crazy? Probably. But that is beside the point. The plain and simple fact is that we have a government out of control. The entire federal government, when created, was to be under the control of the US citizens… not the way it is today when the federal government is in charge of the citizens. So we need to drastically rework the government, the departments and “Offices of…”, and get rid of those we simply don’t need.
Yes, there are whole departments of the US government we have absolutely no need for.
Lets look at just those departments whose secretaries compose the President’s cabinet, shall we?
Here are the departments currently making up the G.W. Bush cabinet: Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, Treasury, and Veterans Affairs, and the Attorney General. Under President George W. Bush, Cabinet-level rank also has been accorded to the Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency; Director, Office of Management and Budget; the Director, National Drug Control Policy; and the U.S. Trade Representative.
Want to shrink the governmet? Then we can begin right here. Get rid of: the Education Department , Energy Department, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, the Labor Department, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. These departments and agencies we can do without, right NOW.
I don’t think the average American has ANY idea the size of the government… NONE. So, take a quick trip over to:
http://www.usa.gov/Agencies/Federal/All_Agencies/index.shtml
… and take a look at the list! It will blow you away!
The US has become a government… not a nation, a government. The Founding Fathers must be spinning in their graves!
If we continue to grow the US government we are going to implode as a country. Sadly, I see no chance for relief anytime soon.
Originally, the 13 states were 13 soveriegn countries. They created the Federal Government to act as the representative of, and in the interest of, those 13 countires on the world stage. If one or more of those 13 countries/states decided they did not want to belong to that “club” any longer they were free to leave. (Right up ‘til my ancestors tried it!) The Lincon Admisitration gave us the overpowerful, omnipotent, federal government by guaranteeing its continued existance by going to war against fellow Americans (taking the lives of nearly 700,000 Americans!) and forcing them to give up their constitutional rights and remain in the “club”… at the point of a bayonet. From the Lincoln Administration until today the Federal Government has continued to grow in size and power until it smothers individual freedom and feeds upon itself. Today it is a self perpetuating, power generating blob gobbling up everything in sight.
This is serious stuff! All Americans need to consider this as we prepare to elect more power hungrey, government growing, democrats to the Congress and, quite, likely the White House.
