The "Star News" of Wilmington, North Carolina, has finally published an editorial I can agree with. Honestly, I thought there would have to be a freeze in August for that to happen, but, no, they’ve done it.
The incident, or non-incident, as it may turn out to be, with the Duke Lacrosse team has deeply irked Tar Heels no matter which of our world renown universities one happens to have attended.
We have watched, with utter amazement, as the DA dove headlong into the murky waters of a case, which, on its face, appeared to have no legs to stand on. As a result, the young men of Duke’s Lacrosse team will be marked for life as a result of what appears to be bungling and ineptitude.
The whole mess has been an embarrassment to North Carolina. The name of one of the world’s great institutions of higher learning has been sullied. The reputation of the state has been struck a blow, which, we hope, will act as a “wake-up” call to our Legislature so that laws may be passed to enable the Judiciary in this state to remove DA’s when they appear to be in “legal water” which is way over their heads.

Black Hawk Down, Part Two?
It’s back to the Horn of Africa and Somalia.
Remember Mogadishu? No? Well, maybe you remember “Black Hawk Down”?
NOOOOW, you remember!
Eighteen US soldiers killed and thousands of Somalis killed. (In one battle.) Then President Clinton lost what little nerve he had and brought the troops home, the Sec Def resigned… it was a royal screw-up from beginning to end!
I suppose the biggest problem created by US troop withdrawal for Somalia was… you guessed it... Bin Laden. He has said repeatedly that when he saw the US "cut and run" from Somalia he knew, right then, that all one had to do was shed a little American blood and the Americans would quit and go home. That, of course, led to the bombings of the World Trade Center towers, the war in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq, and numerous other wars we, as the public, are not told about, but they are hot shooting wars, nonetheless.
Why are we going back to Somalia? Why now?
Al Qaeda is looking for a country to use as a base of operations. We kicked them out of Afghanistan, and their life is pure hell in Iraq, so, they need a base. Somalia hasn’t had a government in 50 years. It’s perfect!
Already, US troops are gathering in nearby Djibouti. The coming war in Somalia will not be nearly as sanitary as the war we have had in Iraq. There will be killing on a massive scale. We learned from our first encounter with the crazed, doped-up, Somali’s that they have little regard for life, especially when they are high... and that’s most of the time. And, in battle they will come at you in droves reminiscent of the Banzai charges of the Japanese during world war two. The steady, well trained US troops will mow them down and litter the ground with bodies eerily like rows of hay in a newly mown field.
Once again, the US will be fighting, here at home, as the PC crowd and the “limp-wristed lefties” begin to scream that all those nice people our troops are killing have black skin! I assure you, our troops see only a man with a weapon intent on killing them and the US troops will do what he is trained to do... and that is to take the enemy’s life as quickly, and efficiently, and in the greatet numbers possible.
When the war “spins up”, and gets going, it will be historically bloody. So, get used to it.
I have said from the beginning of the War on Terror that this is a war with no end. We will simply move our attention from one country to another in a never-ending chain of "brushfire" wars. It makes little difference who the President of the US is at any given time. The intensity of the conflict will wax and wane and people will continue to die on a global scale.
But we cannot back down. The survival of the US hangs in the balance. If we choose not to fight, we will not simply lose this war, we will lose our country and our freedom.
Eventually the shooting war will reach our shores. We have been spared the brutality of war here at home, but not for long. To delay it, as long as possible, we must continue to engage the enemy, off shore, at every opportunity.
Some US troops will eventually leave Iraq, and Afghanistan, but it will be temporary.
The point is... that as long as the planet has people who are hell bent on forcing their religion on others at the point of a sword, spear, or bayonet, then this War on Terror will go on and on. Frankly, I see no end, anywhere, in sight.

A while back, the "Dixie Chicks" made a stupid error and "dissed" the President from a "live" stage performance overseas. That just isn't done… if you expect your fans, in Dixie, to buy your records. As was expected, there was a huge backlash and the Chicks lost loads of money.They hastily issued an apology. But the damage was done.Now, here they come, again, with another restart of their career and wouldn't you know it, they retracted their apology! Of course, fans are shrinking back from them AND their products. A number of performances have had to be cancelled due to low-ticket sales and the sales of their records have dropped off precipitously. It would seem the old adage: "some people never learn" actually IS true!Robert E. Meyer, over at "The Reality Check", has a post expressing the feeling of many Americans towards the "Chicks" these days. It's well worth a read. But, never forget, we also have the freedom to disagree with the content of anyone's speech and to refrain from aiding the speaker in spreading his, or her, message, even… if that means doing without whatever it is he, or she, is selling. What is it with "Tin Horn dictators" that they always, (nearly without fail) seem compelled to don a military uniform, grab a rifle, and have photos taken of themselves, in a menacing stance, glaring at the lens of the camera with hate filled eyes, as if they were daring the world to come after them?
Why is that? 
(Well, admittedly that is a bit of an overstatement on my part. They aren't daring THE WORLD to come after them… they are daring the US to come after them!)
Now, when you have a "piss ant", like Chavez, and the US ignores him… after deciding he offers only a low level threat to anyone (but himself and his people)... he puffs up, like a toad, and prances around, and proclaims that his challenge has cowered the US.
This week Chavez handed out new Russian made Kalashnikov rifles to his troops. Even though the Kalashnikov is quite likely the best combat rifle in the world today, it is not the caliber of the rifle, but the caliber of the men behind it, that wins battles and wars. So long as men of the caliber of Chavez threaten the US we have little to fear.
One can poke a tiger with a stick only so often. Eventually, the big cat will become annoyed and destroy the source of its aggravation.
I am, however, a little concerned that upon the death of Fidel, in Cuba, Chavez will make a move to establish control of that strategic island just 90 miles off our coast.
That will be the day we squash him.
When that happens, the US will be in Cuba to stay. Cuba will become a territory of the US. Chavez will become history.
In the meantime we have to tune out his braying and chest pounding. He will quieten down... once we are no longer distracted with Iraq… if he lasts that long, which, frankly, I doubt.
With the Russians selling arms to Chavez, It might be a good time to remind Russia of the Monroe Doctrine, which was created by US President James Monroe, to thwart Russia's attempts to interfere in this hemisphere. They are getting dangerously close to interfering… again.
It would seem that Russia's serious "Bi-Polar disorder", as regards Russia's relationship with America, has taken another turn. It swings from "Love America" to "Hate America" every few decades. When they are in their "Hate America" mode, they go looking for comrades to use to annoy the US. It would seem they have found one in Chavez. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, Chavez has no inkling that he will play the marionette while Russia pulls the strings.
The endless war between Russia, and their surrogates... and the US, and our surrogates, just goes on, and on, and on…
