A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet
Call it what you like, but what it REALLY -- is a “Bail-Out” bill for newspapers!
It is S.673 and its official name is: "Newspaper Revitalization Act." The bill was introduced by Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat of Maryland, and so far, it has only one co-sponsor and that is Senator Barbara Mikulski, also a Democrat, and also of Maryland.
The proffered deal is, as we understand it, predicated upon the newspaper, being bailed out, becoming a non-profit organization of some sort. That would require restructuring as a 501 (c ) (3) organization. You can learn more about it HERE.
Do you suppose the reason this bill seems bereft of co-sponsors might have something to do with the fact that it is intended to bail-out newspapers and the good Senators are scared witless that if they dare co-sponsor this bill they will be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail by their constituents back home? I wonder. HUMM.
There is one thing we know for certain, and can be easily proved, and that is that the bulk of the news industry, at least in the USA, is far and away leftist in their political beliefs. And we know this: The mainstream media has been a supporter of Obama since day one and continues to act as cheerleaders for him and for his policies with every publication.
There is one other thing we know, as well. If the Senate wants a knock-down, drag-out, fight on it’s hands, a fight with it’s very own constituents, then all it has to do is bring this bill to the floor of the Senate.
For you folks who reside in the hallowed city of Washington, DC, cut-off from the real world where the “Great Unwashed,” your constituents, reside, you need to be made aware of something. To us, the Mainstream Media is a laughing stock. It is a JOKE! We even have little “pet” names for the various left-wing publications.
We knew, long before Election Day in 2008, that the media was “in the tank” for Obama. One would have had to be deaf, dumb, and blind, not to see it. Nothing has changed since, except the passion with which the MsM defends Obama’s policies. If anything they have become even MORE passionate about Obama’s blatantly obvious socialist tendencies.
Back on July 21st of 2008, Rasmussen Reports reported the following: “The idea that reporters are trying to help Obama win in November has grown by five percentage points over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, taken just before the new controversy involving the New York Times erupted, found that 49% of voters believe most reporters will try to help the Democrat with their coverage, up from 44% a month ago.
Just 14% believe most reporters will try to help McCain win, little changed from 13% a month ago. Just one voter in four (24%) believes that most reporters will try to offer unbiased coverage.” Read the entire article HERE. That report was made in July of 2008, several months before the election.
A “Bail-Out Bill” for newspapers has actually been bantered about as a joke for several months now amongst lowly taxpayers. Most never suspected the Congress was THAT DUMB! Apparently, we were wrong! They are THAT DUMB!
I don’t know about you, but I will be firing-off another e-mail to my Senators and to my Congressman strongly suggesting they not support such a bone-headed action in their respective body of the Congress. Like many of my readers, I have come to suspect that most of my e-mails fall victim to the “delete” key about as fast as they arrive at their destination in DC, but, hey, we must keep trying!
You know, I continue to look at news article (cited above) on that Senate bill and it is STILL difficult to see it as anything but a joke. It is a sad commentary on the state of our legislative body in America today.
We have a chance to do something about it in November of next year. It is NOT TOO EARLY to begin readying ourselves to remove as many of the folks now occupying seats in the worst Congress in the history of the US and replacing them with representatives to the two bodies sworn to actually represent us in this Representative Republic. If we don’t, what is left of the “Representative” part of Representative Republic will be completely gone and we will have a Socialist Republic. We are extremely close, even now. Some say we are virtually indistinguishable from a socialist state already.
If we are to save what is left of our country, we are going to have to work harder than we ever worked during the campaigning season. The first thing to remember is -- it is never too early to begin to fight back.
