The People Versus the Government ... Alan Caruba

The People Versus the Government
By Alan Caruba
********************

These are truly extraordinary times. With every passing day, we are witnessing what can only be called the People versus the Government. The distrust and disdain Americans of all political persuasions feel toward the White House and Congress is extraordinary.

A June Gallup Poll revealed that just 12% of Americans expressed confidence in Congress, “the lowest of the 16 institutions tested this year, and the worst Gallup has measured for any institution in the 35-year history of the question.” A recent Rasmussen Reports survey found that 68% believe the nation’s Political Class doesn’t “care what most Americans think.”

The so-called Stimulus Act was widely seen as a “porkulous” act; over two thousand pages filled with Congressional pork projects passed off as “shovel ready.” It promised to reduce unemployed which since has risen—officially—from 8.5% to just under 10%.

There was widespread opposition to the government takeover of General Motors and Chrysler as opposed to an orderly process of bankruptcy that would have permitted changes to restore both companies. The arbitrary White House intervention left bond holders and investors in the cold. It was clearly a bailout for the United Auto Union. This was then followed by the astonishingly stupid “Cash for Clunkers” legislation and the closing of selected auto agencies, some of which were sales leaders.

The overwhelming majority of Americans did not want the healthcare reform act to be passed and now want it repealed. Much has already been written about how it will raise costs and decrease services while driving many physicians to abandon Medicare because of its low payment schedule.

Then came the financial reform act, another huge bill whose contents are still being analyzed, but which significantly avoided any reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two government “entities” that were responsible for the sub-prime mortgage crisis. Both agencies have been seized by the government, but both still own over fifty percent of all U.S. mortgages.

Healthcare, financial services, auto manufacturers; at what point will there any “private” enterprise left in America that is not totally controlled by the government?

What surprises me most is the lack of protest marches in Washington, D.C. The September 2009 rally drew close to a million utterly peaceful people who were opposed to Obamacare. The Tea Party movement has been staging events that have drawn large crowds.

I suspect it has much to do with a patient electorate counting down the days until the November 2nd elections. They are more critical to the future of the nation than any since the election of Abraham Lincoln just prior to the Civil War when southern States were calling for secession.

We are witnessing an increasing friction between the States and the federal government and there is no telling how that will manifest itself in the years to come. The decision by a federal judge regarding Arizona’s effort to force the federal government to do more regarding the wholesale invasion of America promises to be a major issue in both the midterm and 2012 elections.

For me, the most interesting aspect of the dissatisfaction with President Obama is that occurring in the Democrat Party.

President Clinton’s former campaign advisor, James Carville, recently blasted Obama for his handling of the BP oil spill. On July 28, in a joint commentary in The Wall Street Journal, Patrick H. Caddell, a pollster for Jimmy Carter, and Douglas E. Schoen, a pollster for President Clinton, labeled Obama “Our Divisive President.”

“Rather than being a unifier,” wrote Caddell and Schoen, “Mr. Obama has divided America on the basis of race, class and partisanship.” The number of leading Democrat office holders, past and present, that are outspoken in their criticism is becoming a daily event. “President Obama’s divisive approach to governance has weakened us as a people and paralyzed our political culture,” said the pollsters.

None of this bodes well for Obama, despite his ability to raise money for the Democrat Party’s candidates in November and for himself in 2012. It is widely reported that Wall Street, normally a reliable contributor to Democrat coffers, is conspicuously absent at fundraisers.

All this comes back to the fact that Obama is Marxist ideologue. He is also a liar, a trait no one likes, and a narcissist who gives continued evidence of regarding the presidency as a daily opportunity for self-indulgence and bottomless ego satisfaction.

A recent Investor’s Business Daily editorial said, “As Americans suffer economically, President Obama golfs, vacations, campaigns, appears on a frivolous talk show—and vacations some more. Gee, don’t we have a war and other problems to attend to?”

Obama may not be easily removed, but he can be politically neutralized if Republicans can gain control of Congress in November. There are barely 900 days left in his first and hopefully last term; still time for him and his cadre of czars to do more damage.

“America Circling The Drain”

“America Circling The Drain”
By: J. D. Longstreet
*******************

I am hearing more and more folks speak of the Two Americas these days than ever before. But these people, unlike some of our former democratic candidates for President, no longer believe the two Americas can continue in their unhappy marriage.

We have mentioned in our scribbling, a number of times, how America has grown into two absolutely distinct countries cohabitating within the same borders. We have also pointed out that, at some point, these two countries are going to want to be separate from each other. The patience of one or the other will run out and rumblings about separating the two countries, geographically, will begin.

It already has.

Those on my side of this issue want our republic restored. We want the original constitution of the United States recognized as the supreme law of the land as it once was. We yearn to live free (again) as did our forefathers only a few short decades ago. In other words -- we want our freedom and the protections from government granted us by the original US Constitution restored.

I don’t recognize this place called “America” today. There is only a vague resemblance to the real America. Half of the population consists of freedom-loving people, while the other half has fully embraced socialism and Marxism. As of this writing, the socialists/Marxists are in control of the US government.

The last two elections have completed the “balkanization” of the country formerly known as America. The split is deep and wide. For evidence, one has only to consider the way the US government refuses to recognize the sovereignty of the state of Arizona.

Let me ask you… have you noticed more people speaking in lowered tones, whispering to each other as they discuss the politics of the day in America recently? I have. I have been noticing it for some time now. It makes me uneasy. Then I heard a radio commentator mention it a few weeks ago. He, too, has noticed it. As a matter of fact, I had a whispered conversation with a trusted friend, in my office, just a few weeks ago. The topic of the conversation was the shape in which the country finds itself today. It was during this whispered conversation that I suddenly realized what we were doing. I was stunned at the import of what was taking place… in my very own office.

In the America in which I grew up, no one felt the need to whisper about politics, about the President, about Congressional leaders. Does this tell you anything? It should. It tells you we are now an oppressed people!

Listen up, now: When a citizen, in a supposedly free country, feels the need to whisper his opinion on the workings of his government to a trusted friend, that dear reader, is oppression by an overbearing government!

Just days ago, I was having my hair cut and my barber and I were talking politics, as is our wont, when I realized he was leaning forward whispering in my ear his opinion about something the government was doing. This is NOT the America I remember.

Look, America is in BIG trouble. I MEAN BIG TROUBLE. A few of us see it for what it is. A few of us have been warning it was coming and now -- it is here. It is my opinion; everything depends on the outcome of the Mid-Term Election this coming November.

A nation as divided as America is today cannot continue. As we struggle with our internal problems our enemies are circling ever closer, with fangs bared, ready to tear us apart if we don’t do it to ourselves first.

The inevitable approaches. Like a runaway locomotive even if the brakes were applied today, it will take a very long time to stop the train. There WILL be damage.

I wish I had possession of a workable crystal ball to tell me how we will get through this mess we have created through ignorance and apathy. I refer, of course, to the ignorance and apathy of the American citizen.

I do not see how America can survive another half century with 50 states. I just don’t see that. The State Sovereignty Movement is already underway and reports I have seen have the figure at close to two-dozen states already involved to one degree or another. That ought to get your attention. That is close to… HALF the states!

And ponder this: if the government of our southern neighbor, Mexico, should collapse, as a result of this world-wide recession, what happens when the hordes from that country swarm our border, as they surely will? And how will the southern states, on that border, react to what will amount to an invasion?

The stage is set. The players are in the wings, the footlights are on, and the curtain is about to rise. Is this the last act?

“We The People” Is A Fallacy!

“We The People” Is A Fallacy!
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

*****************************
In logic and rhetoric, a fallacy is a misconception resulting from incorrect reasoning in argumentation.

You know, we claim, here in America, that our government is made up of “we the people.” In the past year and a half, or so, of the Obama Regime, we have learned that is false. Oh, it may have been true to varying degrees, in decades past, but no more. Now the government is made up of socialists and Marxists hell-bent on enslaving “we the people” of America.

When the democrat/socialists took power in 2006, they laid low for the next couple of years in hopes of electing a president from their party, which ultimately, they did.

During those nearly two years they were busy as a one-armed man at a paper hanging contest formulating new laws they intended to pass when they had a veto proof Congress and a President, in place, to sign those bills into law. How else do you explain the near instantaneous appearance in the House and the Senate of “new” bills, which were hundreds, even thousands, of pages thick. You do not prepare such documents overnight.

They had been planning the hi-jacking of America. To a great extent, they have been surprisingly successful. It took the American electorate three years to figure out they had been blind-sided by a socialist/marxist plot to take the US from a constitutional republic to a socialist/marxist dung heap.

Conservatives have been fighting around the clock, during those three years, to prop up a reluctant Republican Party and attempt to instill a little steel in their spines and force them to fight, to block, to box-in, to obfuscate, to do whatever they legally could to de-rail the socialist/marxist scheme to drag America down to the mediocre level of many of the European and third world countries on the globe. You see, we conservatives knew, all along, that the so-called democrats did not believe in “American Exceptionalism.” They are ashamed that America is a “super power.” In their minds it is “unfair” for America to be better than other countries. It is the “Social Justice” thing -- you know, Socialism, Marxism, and yes, Communism!

You see, dear reader, when you look at America today understand that THIS is what ignorance and apathy can do to a great country, even a super power.

The most efficient tool the socialist had going for them was political correctness. It demanded so-called “social Justice” by changing the meaning of perfectly good words and phrases and raining down on us pure leftist propaganda such as the global warming hoax. They have even changed “illegal alien” to “undocumented immigrant!” Of course, it is pure bunk, but when our children are indoctrinated in the government school system, they buy into this propaganda because people in authority are soaking their little brains in a bath of their leftist garbage.

As an aside: We desperately need and independent educational system in America. One that accepts not one single dollar of government money and brooks no government interference and NO teacher’s unions allowed. Then, and only then, can we expect to have our children actually gain an education on a par with young scholars in rest of the world. Today, our American students are the recognized dunces of the world. Many are dumb as a fence post and graduate high school unable to read their diplomas.

Americans have a single shot at saving what is left of this once great country: The Mid-Term Election this coming November. To save America we must turn out in droves and vote for the conservative candidates. Already the socialists are mustering their troops to deny us that victory by force of numbers. They intend to flood the polling places with the voters who traditionally vote in blocks for democrat/socialist candidates. For the most part they are the Americans who depend upon the dole of the federal government for their continued existence. They are the “wards of the government” and they will do Obama’s bidding, and Obama is counting on them to save his party in November.

Finally, in my opinion, the Tea Party is going to have to suck it up and begin endorsing candidates for the election in November. Otherwise, what’s the point? I believe it is time for the Tea Party to put their accumulated power to good use in rescuing America from the clutches of the socialist/marxists now in power.

The people who have hi-jacked America have a lot for which they will be called to account. Thousands of years ago a prophet, by the name of Isaiah, said: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isaiah 5:20-21) The Obama Regime would do well to harken to the words of this ancient prophet.

Our socialist overlords can deny their socialism as much as they like, but as Jesus, Himself, said: “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” (Matthew 7:16) If history has taught us anything, it is that the fruit of the socialist/marxist tree is the fruit of a poison tree. It can, and will, poison a nation -- even unto death. In olden days the ancients upon locating a tree with bad fruit, would hew it down and destroy it to save their orchard. It is time to exercise our horticultural husbandry skills and do a little “hewing” at the ballot box in November
