HR 5252 will Bring Ruin to the Internet!

Ever hear of COPE? The letters stand for: Communications, Opportunity, Promotions, and Enhancement Act.

It’s about to be passed, in the Congress, (HR 5252 is the House version. The Senate has a similar version) and signed by the President, and it will bring an end to the Internet as we know it today.

Users of the Internet will suddenly be faced with webs sites located either on a “fast lane" or a "slow lane”. Currently this blog site is just as easy to get to on the ‘net as is, say, that of the NYT. If the Congress has it’s way, the "Big Boys" will rule the day and they will determine how long it takes for you to get from one site on the web to another. If the owner of a website has the money, and prestige, that website will be put in the “fast Lane”. Access to it will be mush faster than access to a less well-funded site.

Now, I’m not as clear on this as I need to be. For some reason the MSM has not seen fit to splash the details of this arguably “Internet devastating” legislation across their printed page, their broadcast page, or their Internet page. The Baltimore Sun has, so far, the most detailed coverage on HR 5252 that I have seen. So, I recommend that you got to the Baltimore Sun site for a full explanation on this fast moving “proposed legislation”. You’ll find the story here:

I hope you agree this is SERIOUS stuff. We need more information and the public needs to move on this ASAP. Let your Congressperson, and Senators, know that you do not want this "COPE" passed into law. Tell them to LEAVE THE INTERNET ALONE!

In the meantime, learn all you can about C.O.P.E. The future of the Internet may well depend on it!

I thought republicans were for little government into personal life? How can they govern something that is world-wide? What if I am looking at a web-site based in Australia? I am in "shock and awe" ole' friend. I think you "Conservatives" better get together and get the gloves off, I know as a Liberal (I hate government legislation into personal and private matters) this all just smells bad. If you love your freedom it's time to get Liberal. Corporations want a ruling that money is speech when it comes to the First Amendment, they think the constitution actually applies to them, it doesn't, it's for the people.

The thing is, ole friend, this is a bipartisan bill!

So far as the Repubs enlarging the size and reach if government, it is obvious they have forgotten who got them into power. That, of course, was the conservatives. We abhore big government!

The RNC, and the other money raising branches of the GOP, are sending out surveys asking about the concerns of the Republican voters. I received two in less than a week. Let me tell you, they are getting an earful!!!

Frank, if I can be so bold as to offer some unsolicited advice, ... the Dems need to get Pelosi to shut up! She is proclaiming victory, already, and she is stirring up the base... but it is OUR base she is getting stirred up. You'll need 15 seats to take the House back. That is near impossible under the best of circumstances.

When the Conservatives hear what the Dems plan to do, they are going to forget our differences with the moderate branch of the GOP and rush to the polls to vote in November. Mrs. Plosi has climbed out ... way out... on a limb and now she is sawing that limb off behind here. I can't tell you how much the GOP appreciates that!

Longstreet----cheer each time you see Pelosi on the tube....The Republicans can't buy better help.
Let's hope they don't catch on.

Now your really hoping for change? I think the Dems. have changed, for the better, since loosing the house and senate maybe your guys will too. If the republicans "luck" back in you will get more of the same. Here in Ohio we are definitly over taxed and the repubs. have been in control for 16 years and noone has the brains to vote them out. I don't want to see our Fed. go the same way..... Don't get me wrong I am a Liberal, not a socialist, or a communist as you betray us, but an honest to goodness government out my life, stop dictating to me, the individual, LIBERAL. I will vote for the Dem. in my state but if things aren't better in 4 years I will vote against him. Sometimes crossing party lines sends a better message than staying home. If we survived 16 yrs. of failed leadership, what can a change hurt? How many Dems. elected Ronald Regan because of Jimmy Carter? The ones who say "Both parties are the same" or it doesn't matter scare me, they vote the same old same old.

WASHINGTON - Following a report that the U.S. agency in charge of a domestic spying program is building a database of every phone call made within the country, President Bush told the nation from the White House that all anti-terrorism efforts are within the law.

Do we need more of this blatant intrusion?
