Will America Stand With Japan In A War With China? ... J. D. Longstreet

Will America Stand With Japan In A War With China?
A Commentary by J. D. Longstreet

*****************
Americans should understand -- the United States has an obligation to come to the defense of Japan if she is attacked -- by anyone.  Standing with Japan against China is included.

There is this thing called the US-Japan Treaty which binds the two countries.

At the moment China and Japan are facing off in a "stare-down" contest over a chain of small islets/islands called the Senkaku Islands.

The Senkaku Islands are a group of uninhabited islands controlled by Japan in the East China Sea. They are located roughly due east of Mainland China, northeast of Taiwan, west of Okinawa Island, and north of the southwestern end of the Ryukyu Islands.

What's so special about these islands?  Well, a look back at their fairly recent history may make the picture a bit clearer.

"After it was discovered in 1968 that oil reserves might be found under the sea near the islands, Japan's sovereignty over them has been disputed by the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC, commonly known as Taiwan) following the transfer of administration from the United States to Japan in 1971. The Chinese claim the discovery and control of the islands from the 14th century. Japan controlled the islands from 1895 until its surrender at the end of World War II. The United States administered them as part of the United States Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands from 1945 until 1972, when the islands reverted to Japanese control under the Okinawa Reversion Treaty between the United States and Japan." You did note the word "OIL" didn't you?

China has already sailed her warships into Japanese territorial waters over this issue.  That is a "no-no."

One does not have to be a mental giant to realize that China against Japan is another of those David and Goliath encounters.  Plus, China has nuclear weapons and, by choice, Japan does not.

The sheer numbers of China's military would wash, like a tsunami, over a Japanese military defense of the Senkaku Islands.

So, what then is Japan to do?  Give up the Islands to China, or stand and fight (and most likely lose) or stand and fight -- and call for the US military to back them up?

Remember --there is the US-Japan Treaty, right?

But what, exactly does that treaty say?

Here's the text of the applicable Article Five of the US-Japan Treaty:

"Each Party recognizes that an armed attack against either Party in the territories under the administration of Japan would be dangerous to its own peace and safety and declares that it would act to meet the common danger in accordance with its constitutional provisions and processes. Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall be immediately reported to the Security Council of the United Nations in accordance with the provisions of Article 51 of the Charter. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security."

Uh-oh!  The United Nations.  Ye GADS!  Another mess!

Now, I'm no expert on international law and I am most certainly no expert on treaties and such, but from the text of Article Five, I'd say Japan is in serious trouble.

First off -- the US is broke and would, most likely, have to borrow the money from China to wage war with Japan against China.

Secondly - even though the Japanese military is a force to be reckoned with, and if the modern Japanese soldiers are half the fighters their Second World War ancestors were, it will take some doing for China to over run them.  But in the end -- China will prevail.

Thirdly- under the terms of the treaty, the United Nations will be involved from the git-go. At that point, the pooch has officially been screwed.

Fourthly - with the current leadership of the Obama Regime in the United States, Japan would be wise to just forgo any involvement by the US.  I mean, what we have in America today, at the top of our government, is a group of amateurs -- obviously in over their heads -- especially in so far as foreign policy is concerned.

Even now there are published reports  that it has already been suggested to Japan, by high US officials, that Japan should stand down.

Once again, the world is about to see that the US cannot be trusted to stand by its treaty obligations.  That is something my Native American ancestors could have told the world centuries ago!

The Obama Administration is far too busy snuggling up to Beijing  to allow a war between an enemy (China) and a friend Japan) to get in the way.  Besides, America needs more money from China to finance the Obama Regime's Socialist/Marxist Agenda for the "fundamental transformation" of the US. In fact, Obama had rather the US look more like China than Japan (or pre-Obama America), anyway.

Look. I am not particularly enamored of Japan, especially since the Second World War. But it pains me to see our government toss yet another friendly nation under the bus.

Then there is this:  One has to wonder how the folks on the island of Taiwan feel about all this.  The US has a treaty with Formosa/Taiwan, too.

You can bet China is considering the US moves in regard to this issue over the Senkaku Islands.  Rest assured if China moves on Japan to seize the islands, and the US military does not step up, it will only be a matter of time before China moves on Taiwan to restore it to the clutches of the Chinese government on the mainland.

THIS is what happens, dear reader, when America stands down from world leadership.  Thanks to America's socialist/Marxist (rabid) anti-colonialist president, Barack Hussein Obama, a man who, I am convinced,  hates America and intends to lead the decline and fall of America as pay back for injustices, real, or imagined, done to his father's country, a colony -- not of the US but of Great Britain -- in the distant past.

So.  As Japan goes eyeball to eyeball with China, we suggest Japan cast a glance over her shoulder.  They will learn that Obama's America will NOT BE THERE.

The sad truth is this:  Obama has not only destabilized America, he has destabilized the entire world.

It will require generations to repair the damage Obama has done to America -- at home and abroad.

It has become clear that if the American electorate does not remove Mr. Obama on November 6th, that election will, most likely, be the last election in an America, which will soon see its constitution suspended and a form of martial law established that will insure an Obama "Presidency for life."

After that, Americans will be entirely too busy just surviving from day to day to worry about Japan and the Senkaku Islands.
