The new Immigration Bill must be stopped!!! # 2

(This such an important issue I have chosen to run this post again today. "Longstreet")

The new Immigration Bill, passed by the US House recently, is filled with trip wires and back doors and all of them are encroachments on the free citizens of the United States of America.

This bill, in its current form, must be stopped. The Senate is our last chance to stop this Bill before it is let loose on the people of the US.

I can understand the border fence and getting that 3-mile gap closed. We truly need more protection on our border with Mexico and yes, on our border with Canada. But that portion of the New Immigration/Real ID Bill which allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to disregard laws that get in his/her way (as they pertain to road and walls/fences) is going entirely too far. The intent of the law is good. The actual effect of the law is damnable.

The Bill will make drivers licenses virtually a “Federal Drivers License” rather than state drivers licenses, as they are now. The records will contain much more information, about the holder of the license, than is necessary, including medical records and such. The drivers license will become a National ID card as it must be used to purchase plane tickets, train tickets, even as an identification to enter federal property such as a National Park. How long do you think it will be before your drivers license will become the dreaded National ID card conservatives have fought against for many decades? Not long, I assure you. This cannot be allowed to happen.

As with many bills, originating in the US House, the intentions are good. However, there is a gap a mile wide for the “Law of Unintended Consequences” to drive a truck through. Right there... is where a fence needs to be placed! Close that gap and we can have a bill that will gain the support of my wing of the political spectrum.

I am more than a little tired of having my freedoms taken away in the name of security. If we, as Americans, allow this rush to totalitarianism, we will soon have neither freedom nor security.

Now is the time to call your Senator’s office and let your voice be heard on this abomination of a bill. If it can be stopped the Senate is our last chance. I urge you to get on the phone today.

News reports tell us the intention is to make this bill a part of a “must pass” Senate bill in order to get it through the Senate. The President has already said he will sign it.

Every so often, there comes a time to stand up and be counted. Now is one of those times. We must not allow this “Abomination” to become law.

The historian Edward Gibbons once said:

“In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life and they lost it all: Security, Comfort, and Freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society, but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished most for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free… and never was free again!”

We cannot allow this to happen to America. Yet, we certainly seem to be headed in that direction. This new immigration bill will only grease the skids.

I urge you to get on the phone, get on your e-mail, even snail mail… any avenue open to you, to lobby the US Senate. Don’t put it off. Their intentions are to pass this bill into law immediately. Never mind the obvious unconstitutional portions of it.

This is most certainly a “call to action” for all Americans who wish to maintain our freedom. Now, today, is the time to call, write, or email your Senator.

Your Obedient Servant,

“Longstreet”
