US Ground-Based Missile Defense System Now Operational!
The Missile Defense Shield is up... and is operational.
An un-named source, within the defense community, is reported to have confirmed the missile shield was switched from “Test” mode to “Operational” mode as a result of the impending North Korean missile “test firing”.
“Little Green Footballs” has more on this story at:

It is indeed “good to be ready”.
We only hope this is just the beginning of a continental missile defense shield. A part of the so-called “Star Wars” project initiated by President Ronald Reagan, the ground-based system has been in development for a number of years now.
We, as a nation, may yet come to appreciate the forward thinking of The Gipper!

Sir,
Do you really feel safer when the 'Ready' switch is active on a system that has never actually destroyed a target?
tsb
YES !!!
Remember, the A-Bomb had destroyed no targets before it was dropped on Japan.
Sir,
The atom bomb was tested quite successfully in the Pacific ocean and deserts of Nevada before being used in Japan. It was by no means an untested weapon.
The missile defense system has not only been tested, but has failed EVERY TEST!! You feel safe under that umbrella?
I feel safer knowing that I'm on the far side of the continent...

Sir, I am well aware of the tests prior to the dropping of the bomb on Japan. But that, sir, was not your question. You referenced the destruction of "A TARGET".
I also know that we had only two bombs and we did not know if we could manage the chain reaction once it had been set into motion by the bomb.
The bomb had not been tried on an "enemy target" until that date.
Before GW ran for President, the first time, I received a questionaire, from the GOP, as to my concerns about where I wanted the government to go under a Bush adminstration. One of the things I listed, as my main concerns, was a Missle Defense System for the United States. He delivered. I have not changed my mind.
The system is still being developed, even now. I have no doubts, at all, that we can develop a Missle Defense System that will stop the majority of enemy missiles aimed at this country.
I believe in this country, and what it can do, when it sets it's mind to it. Unfortunately, there are powers at work in our country, and our government, that do not want to see America succeed at anything, including a Missile Defense System. They continually bring doubt to the table of any discussion which might reference America's military might. I have no use for those who indulge in such a stategy.
